AUS spec my03 qmile times:)

Hi all,
we have our my03 here in aus now so i just thought id let you know what time we are getting so far
0-100 5.8
0-400 14.1
These times are from "MOTOR" magazine. They seem to be rapped in the peformance of the 03 when compared to the 01/02 and absolutely love the torque spread
Cheers

0 - 400 !! Wow, must get one !!
Well yes you should then!!!! 0-400 is only the UNIVERSAL test on every single peformance car ever made!!!!!
Guess you didnt see the bit about the torque spread?
Cheers

I have no figures to offer, but having just been to Oz, I would like to congratulate you and your fellow country men on having an abundance of burbling cars. Everywhere we went we saw LOADS of Scoobs, Holdens (I want an HSV)and Ute's It was a sight to behold!!!! shame about the singlets!!!! Incidently....85 cents a litre!!!!

It should be the WRX that they tested, cos the MY03 STi isn't available there yet.
The cars won't lose their burble, cos no twin-scroll for AU-spec STi (twin-scroll won't make the burble disappear anyway, just a bit muted).

Ive only seen them, but ill drive one very soon A few friends have driven them and they came back with very good results/reports and all say that its as quick as the old models which is very good news
Here is an unbiased report from a fellow club member (in aus) when comparing his 02 and the 03, enjoy
Oh and we still have the burble
Report:
Had an my03 for Saturday night / Sunday. This cars a demo and has been run
in.
Overall verdict to save people who dont want to read the whole thing: Very
good car, much improved from my02 (which i currently have,
and will keep coz i love the sunroof and yellow.)
Biggest differences: Ride quality and engine response / powerband.
Specifics: The engine is the thing that got me, much more torque down lower,
this makes 1st gear more of a scream like in the older rex (my00
and backwards) 1st is very noticably quicker(most improvement here when you
are not launching 02/03) , 2nd is noticeably quicker, 3rd feels much
the same as the 02, 4th and 5th a bit weaker. Once again mainly due to the
torque being down lower, you dont need to launch this car
to get a quick time. I posted a while back doing a back road run to 100km/h
(not scientific with stopwatch, a couple of runs, cool weather etc)
my 02 before a bit of sti fiddling was getting 7 second (no launch). After
fiddling by sti on last test it was down to 6.5 seconds without a launch.
The my03 in a still
tight car (my cars done over 10,000kms now) is pulling a 6.3 with no hassles
and is repeatable WITHOUT a launch. So yes it is
a faster car at least in the 0-100 dash and I now believe with a well run in
car and a good driver 5.8 seconds would be achievable. The only
thing that feels a bit weaker is 4th and 5th at higher speeds seem to have
less pull and acceleration, but realistically with speed limits the way
they are now, most people would prefer the torquier my03 engine, its better
in traffic etc etc, overall i really liked the engine and response.
Ride. The new suspension setup gives a softer ride on the road, and feels
less like a performance car and more like a nice family car.
Having said that the car handles as well as the my02 and they may have put
better swaybars or something on there because there is noticeably
less body roll through the tighter corners. It hangs on real well too.
Problems: The only thing i noticed that may be of some concern, but
probably not coz it s Subarus concern not the cutomers is how hot
the cars run, the my03 heated up the garage a lot more than the my02 does
after a spirited run. Reliability may become an issue, and it will
be interesting to see how well the my03 goes on a really hot or humid day.
Lets hope subey has done there homework for our conditions.
Other concern may be modability, coz i get the impression this engine is
already pretty tuned up as is the ECU, and the increase in compression ratio
means you need to be more careful with what you do as there is increased
chance of detonation, especially with things seeming to run so hot already.
Also how long until there is a decent aftermarket chip or Warrantied
peformance chip that controls AVCS correctly is unknown.
Overall: If your looking to save some $$$ and dont mind modding your car,
an my02 with a chip and zorst, swaybars will beat an my03 and you
should get all this overall for less than an my03 if you shop around.
Having said that if your not looking at modding, definitely get the my03,
its a
great engine, broader torque range, more drivable in traffic etc and sits a
bit more comfy on the road, AND its fast!. Subaru has a winner here....
Cheers
