This may end up in muppets (feel free mods!) but here goes.
What/How many modifications can you make to your scoob (or any other car) before it is no longer really a scoob?
I know that to be a 'classic', a car has to be pretty much standard (i.e. how it came out of the factory).
This is NOT a dig at people who mod their cars, just want to see what people think. For example the Lada in top gear could hardly call itself a proper Lada anymore. As with the old max power bangers that have different engines, suspension, wheels, interiors, bodywork etc.
In other words, at what point does it become a custom car?

I must take serious offence at you classing maxpower **** as Custom Cars.
get real, get a copy of custom car or street machine & you will see real custom cars.
modded is the fave word in maxpower & that's all the cars are, remember back in the 70's mk1 escorts with chromed back axels & a big red fog light shining on them ?? they were custom cars just modded, today it not a chromed axel with a red light, its a crap box nova with blue lights in the windscreen washers. :eeke:

The point was not saying max power crapmobiles were custom cars, but at what point does modding stop being modding and become custom. e.g. if it has different engine, suspension, bodywork, is it still an XYZ? etc.
Many custom cars start of as something in the first place don't they? Some are pure custom designed and built as well, but I've seen both in Custom car magazines so I assume that they both class as a custom car.
BTW, I appreciate my comments should have disregarded the Max power bit but that was used as an example as I've seen a Saxo that has just about no saxo bits on or in it. Is this custom or modding gone mad?

Perhaps if it doesn't look like something the factory issued? That would cover it on a visible angle - even the engine bay if you extend it that far. To the eye the question would be is that a x or a y?

subaru built?
nonsense.
there are no standard parts on a wrc car.
They take a type r shell as standard, thats it. Then they do so much welding to it that it can no longer be considered a standard shell.
None of the other bits I can think of on the car are standard, with the possible exception of the main bit of dash board but even that is hacked to clear the internal roll cage.
None of the rest of it is subaru built or even supplied. Prodrive is not subaru you know.

Changing the engine IMHO opinion is cheating! The engine is the heart of a car and the heart of its performance. These peeps that have 2.0 Turbo Nova's aren't driving Nova's anymore if you ask me.
It would be like me transplanting John Bank's brain into my head. I'd suddenly find I could do new things like map ECU's, be a doctor, be a pansy on the track , etc but I'm not longer Kenny MacLeod...I'd be John banks but with a seriously upgraded exterior

changing engins is cheeting ??
my MK1 escort is still an escort, it has a bigger engine then when it left ford, in fact it has bigger wheels, different gearbox, different back axel, rollcage etc but its still an escort, all that is left is the shell the rest has been changed

So your saying if I changed the bodywork on my Impreza to look like an EVO 7 I'd have an EVO 7? What 'makes' an Impreza and Impreza is its boxer engine, that is what defines its character, its performance and also its limitations, etc. If through upgrading/altering that engine you need to change the gearbox, diffs, etc then thats fine but to remain an Impreza you have to stick with the boxer engine IMO.
