The M3 issue has now been resolved Click Here

However, as you will see, BMW GB say they will "reword" the warranty in light of this issue - they don't specify whether it will be reworded to include otr exclude track days.

Just read an article in Autocar about some BMW driver that took his M3 on track, gearbox went pop, BMW failed to pay. After much legal to-ing and fro-ing, BMW changed its stance.
But that's not the interesting bit.
Autocar also obtained statements from other manufacturers.

Porsche: "There's no specific difference for trackdays. If there is a manufacturing fault, we will replace it"

Mitsubishi: "They are outside the scope of the warranty, its quite clear"

Honda: "It's a grey area. The cars are designed for road not track use"

And the biggest of all......

Subaru: "It's only right the we cover drivers if things go wrong"

Yeah, right

Similar thing in EVO

In EVO it says BMW catagorically state they will void the warranty.

The Subaru quote did make me chuckle though.

Mitsubishi was the most amazing.

So basically all these performance manufacturers will void your warranty if used on track, but are quick enough to state what the car can actually do performance wise.

You can't use the full performance of a quick car on the road - and you can't use it on track cos they'll void your warranty.

Unless it's a TVR - which is crackers.

Wink

I suppose TVR rekon that their cars are equally likely to fall apart when used on road, track or parked on your drive, so why make an issue of it?

If i remember correctly Suabru advertised the Impreza as the closest thing to the rally car. They even invited me to a track day to show me what it can do. Ths why most of us i think bought the car for. Now for them to turn around and say NO you cant use your car on track is like a stab in the back. Whats the point of having a performance car when you cant take it on track. I might as well go out and buy another GOLF if i cant use the full potential of my performance car.

Has a confirmed case of warranty being voided for track use surfaced yet. As far I'm aware (but could easily of missed it) after the furore surrounding the SIDC day @ Donny - The only confirmed case there was for modifcations not track use ?
