RB5 - IMHO - P1 gives you 2 less doors, the extra doors come in handy sometimes!!

Oh, yes, Shun IMPORTS and MODDED cars unless you want to buy into trouble!!

The Wagon is faster and better handling and the Classic will hold the money - dont even think about a Bug-eye!!

Something like a MY00 Wagon UK spec One Owner Unmodified would be just IDEAL!! oooops thats what I've got!

If I was you it would be an RB5 - loverly Jubberly

Pete

Oh, yes, £20k might just see you into TWO P1's these days - dont pay silly money, no need to!!

Don't be too scared about a modified car. I think it is fair to say that most people on here (myself included), spending money on modifications, service and maintain their pride and joys to the highest standard.

It is true that not all modifications are to everyones taste and some can have negative effects on a car. There are so many people on Scoobynet who can offer technical advice, so if you find a modded car you like ask a few questions on here before you commit to anything.

P1 if you can.
RB5 if not.

I drive a MY00 UK Turbo - never been anything less than thrilled with it. Good luck!

Apologies but I have already submitted this in the "Wanted" section already but realised it was probably the wrong place (Beginers error I'm affraid)

Hi Guy's

I have been introduced to Scoobynet by a friend as I have been longing for a Subaru for over a year now and am in a postion to buy one in January. (I will be 25 so Insurance much more bearable)

I have £20K to spend and have seen many flicking through the mags.
Ideally I would like a P1 but I think it maybe a little out of my price range.

Any Ideas or recomendations on which model to go for??

RB5!!

I'm not only saying that because they are my fave, look in the back of an EVO mag - best scoob for UK roads as I read somewhere.

There is a nice prodrive one for sale in here in for sale section, which I would have in a flash if it was next year.

First piece of advice, always take Mr. Lewis' advice with a pinch, nay a handful of salt. If you think of general opinion stretching from one pole to another, with most peope in between at various points, he is waaaaaaay out on his own, somewehere cold, where his old bones ache, so that he must come here for warmth......

For £20k next year you will be able to get an immaculate low mileage P1, THE best Impreza in my opinion, and it will hold its value better than any other model. You may even get one with a few tasty upgrades, such as the Alcon brake kit, or maybe even the 18" gold OZ alloys!! Like the RB5, it has been adapted specifically for UK roads.

Or, if are into tuning, buy an immaculate Sti Type R, and go bonkers with the money you save!

STI Type R either V5 or V6. Best one IMHO.
It's the P1 with all the funky bits left as they should be...

Pay between 12 and 16k for a minter.

Depends if you want absolute performance and are prepared to pay for mod after mod. For 20k you could get the last of the bugeyes AND sti-levelling PPP AND cure the bugeye with some morrettes and still have change. And then you have 3 years warranty and roadside assistance, and a shiny new car that you KNOW has not been ragged, badly modded, etc etc. You cant beat owning a NEW car.

OR you could wait and save for a few more months and get the new STi8

If you want performance and don't care about creature comforts, then a Type RA would be ideal. If not, go for an STI or one of its derivatives..

i bought an import n modded sti type r.

whats wrong with a p1 reformance car for considerably less money?

drive sensibly n it would be ok. choosing a car can be quite daunting but best to ask lots of questions n take a friend who knows scooby along.

NOW - ignore all these muppets who mod their cars then complain when they go BANG!!

Listen to the daddy and you wont go far wrong (thats ME by the way!!)

AVOID IMPORTS - horrible things that are about as welcome on the second hand market as a bout of Leprasy!! WHATEVER they say!!

MODDED cars - yes, some are well cared for and serviced BUT and its a BIG BUT - these people are the ones who use the extra power at every oppotunity...................face it, these cars are running out of spec and stressing themselves to the limit. Hence AVOID like the plague .... you will be spending months picking bits of engine off the road.

RB5 - Yummy Yummy - simply the BEST

P1 - never seen the point of these, 2 doors, no radio, cant tow .... just a waste of space (remember they couldnt GIVE the last ones away!!) It follows on in the second-hand market - silly money = NO sale!!

All in All get a UK standard, one owner and FSSH and enjoy!!

All in my humble, of course!!

ha ha J32 must admit it was getting a bit out of hand but a P1 still sounds too tempting to resist plus in regards to what Tud said maybe I could get a caravan in the same gorgeous blue!!! ;-)

I think the P1 is a lovely car but i dont like the idea of 2 doors. If you have had a 2 door car in the past, think about the pain of getting in and out of the back and the extra long doors that needs more room to open.
if you really want a good scooby go for the RB5, but if you want a **** hot mota go for the STIV.
if not save up a bit more money and wait to Feb and buy one of the newer scoobys (MY03)

Ray . But wot ever you do dont have gold wheels with a silver car i think it does not look rite.

I think alot is going to depend on what I want to get out of the car!!!

The amount of doors doesnt really bother me as 90% of the time I am in there on my own and dont have any need for back seats (single too) !!!

It think it is between a P! an RB5 now although very tempted by certain blue scooby in the wanted section!!!

I am getting the vibe that some people dont like Gold wheels on scoobys??? in my opinion it was what first symobolised the Impreza when it first became popular!!!

Anyway another BIG Thanks to all for your opions and experiences

Roll on Jan when I can hopefully meet a few of you down a track and you can teach me how to drive it properly!!!!
