Helicoiling (In Sussex)???
#1
Hi all.
When i went to take my Sparkplugs out to check the gap was 0.7mm and not 1.1mm, the first one (Airbox side, front) was easy.
When I went to take out the one next to it, (Airbox side nearest Bulkhead) it wasn't even tight!
Strange I thought! Then after about 5 minutes of undoing it with my fingers, it wasn't out!! :
That's when I realised it must have been overtightened, and that's where my hesitation's coming from.
So...Has anyone had similar, and/or Does anyone know where I can get the plug removed, and the hole Helicoiled?? And about how much it is??
I'm in the Brighton area.
Many Thanks,
Jon.

im sure any good garage can do it fo you , or just do it your self , buy the correct kit (im sure some one can tell you the correct size and pitch for the scoob plugs )the kit should come with correct drill , and over sized tap and correct lenth insert
. will need to block up hole some how mind to stop swarf entering bore (also belive there is bits avalible to stop this)
unlikely due to head beeing alloy but maybe possable its just the plug that stripped its threads ????

Hi
Sorry to hear sbout the plugs.
GDA near Tunbridge Wells are the best Scooby people I have found in Kent/Sussex - Graham 01892740006. May be a bit far to go though
There is a mobile Scooby specialist based around the Lewes area. I have never used him so don't have details. Hopefully someone will see this and post them.
Hope this helps

Jonny this sounds pricey!!!
I am an engineer and helicoil stuff for a living, a helicoil tool is about 6"-8" long which means it aint going to happen with the engine in place.
Hope I am proved wrong though mate............maybe theres a knack to it with scoobys..........

Just a thought.. the spark plug sits in the top of the cylinder head... any metal cut away will no doubt land in the cylinder...
Cant really see how you could block the other end of the hole being tapped as this is inside the cylinder???
Deffo a head off job if you dont want metal deposits in your engine, plus the fact that the heads sit about 2inches away from the inner wings
Good luck anyway mate.... just a thought, what is the thread like on the sparkplug?? if it is badly cross threaded then it might be worth buying a new plug and threading it in slowly and not tightening it up too much?? not a solution but maybe worth a try first mate..
Rob
If you do try the 'new plug' approach first then thread the plug in 1 turn clockwise then 1/2 turn back and so on until it threads as far in as you want it to.
