Hi

I saw a rally scoob at Grizedale today and can only describe it as sounding like an air bed being let down, what's that all about?

There was no scooby rumble, in fact there was barely any engine noise at all! It just kinda went ffffffsssss, like...well, an airbed.... Is this cos it has equal length headers or is it some new fangled exhaust or perhaps it's just being powered by expelling air, from an airbed

Seriously though, what goes on?

Becoming more PC perhaps? More of concern though is how you know what an air bed sounds like...

I suspect it didn't have a VTA DV, it didn't chiss or chirp, it must of had a very quiet anti lag too, it popped a flame out on the gearchange but didn't make any of the noises you'd associate with anti lag.

Rally cars do not have a dump valve so it's not that......... the equal length headers will be making most of the difference IMHO. But there are a lot of things that make it sound very different to a road car.

Yeah it was the Dunbabin's car. It was definitly NOT equal length headers or dump valve! I heard it too Bob. I reckon it sounded more like a partial blockage of the exhaust, possibly by sound deadening in the silencer. Had some lift though, didn't it?

I noticed it had a teeny tiny exhaust but what makes you so sure it's not to do with the headers?

Because its International spec group n and they aren't allowed to use them. They were up for a test for next years BRC.

I went to watch the rallycross at croft and there were some awesome cars there, including a 700BHP RS200, some old 6R4's and other bits and bobs, but the Escort Cossie that won the supercar race against these cars sounded like this, but the hiss was accompanied by some serious acceleration!
