Cool

Is that the Mr Phil Bennett of TOCA fame?

I'm guessing you might get a discount on APs??

Seriously, the official upgrade are Alcons but many people will have put AP6s on there. BHP is 276 as standard & they should lap Brands Indy at around 1'03 out the box with those brakes - normal drivers that is Whereas IIRC you were knocking 49s when I took the picture...

Welcome back

I count myself fortuneate to have had Phil give me a few laps of Donnington in my own scoob, both as an instructor and driver. Found I was able to take craner much quicker afterwards . But Phil, I recall at the time that you were not too impressed with Subarus and their handling (mine fitted with Brembo's and Leda B's, 278bhp UK Wagon) What has changed your thinking since??

Edit to say...
Puff, it wouldn't surprise me if a racing driver (like Phil here) could take a well sorted P1 and almost lap as fast as his Astra!! (only a couple of laps mind, before it goes bang!!!)

I'm going to buy a P1 but am in a difficult position in that I know cuff all about them!! Apart from I like the look of them.

The one I'm looking at has a brake upgrade? a Prodrive exhaust and 18' wheels - Are these bits worth more money? What kind of horsepower will it make? 280?

Cheers, Phil.

richuk300 has about 300 Bhp in his "allegedly" standard P1. I say allegedly because I always thought that P1s were around 280 Bhp.

Depends on which RR you put it on some show less than 280 some show more than 300. Who knows who is right, cause I certainly dont and so I take RR figures with a pinch of NaCl . RR are a good day out and make for fun meet which is more important IMHO. You can get some sort of gauge by the cars around you and how well they are performing. As long as the graph looks good and has a good curve I aint bothered what the scale says . Unless its 0-100bhp of course .

Thanks for the link - was a good source of info.

Does anyone know however if the brake upgrade is an AP kit?

Also can it run on 95RON?

It probably can run on 95ron fuel but most people wouldnt run them on anything less than SUL/Optimax and even then most add Octane Booster like Millers as essentially its a remapped jap sti 5 engine.

It probably can run on 95 RON in fact it'll probably run on heating oil however the owner' supplement says, and I quote:

Given it's a jap engine and effectively an Sti5 ECU I think you'd be daft to run it anything less than SUL.

Lol. So I've actually almost exactly repeated what P1Fanatic just said

I run mine on Optimax + NF. I have the Alcons and they're most impressive. Can't compare them to APs as I've never tried them

I would most certainly run the P1 on Optimax and NF if possible. It should be known that p1's have identical ecu map as STI 5 with more sensetive knock correction.

Hi Phil, good to see you back on here.

If you want a chat about the pro's and cons of a P1 in its various specs or info on the STi5 TypeR/RA (which may be a good option for you) drop me a mail on my profile.

cheers
john

Phil,

I wouldn't use 95RON unless it's that, or nothing......

Prodrive did originally market them as being fine to run on low octane, but quickly changed their minds. Most P1/STi5 owners will be running 97/optimax + octane booster, or get it remapped.

However, since you have a good source for "race fuel", as recommended by you, for use in Subaru's, that may be a good option Sorry mate, but I just couldn't resist

Mark.

Yes, checking the profile (which I did) kind of gives it away

Still, Adam, why have a dog and bark yourself?
