Just a general thank you to Nitosport and BRD for supplying everything so quickly and courteously.
all arrived safely as you can see

Shame Scoobysport didn't get a mention here as they did a blindingly good service last time I used them !

Let the modding continue

Cheers

A bit of a progress report,

spent far too long gazing at the car wondering where the hell to start but when I got stuck in it wasn't so bad,
Removed the intercooler to see where I could "lay a cable".

Fitted the Boost sender unit below the throttle cable attatching it using the bolt on the throttle cable bracket.

Fitted the Oil Temperature sender to the top of the block above No. 3 piston. you should be able to make it out just below the throttle springs and to the right of the turbo outlet. needed a special adapter for this. (Part No. 11024AA210 plug-main gall)

The part that took up most of my time last night was where to put the controller !!!
Eventually ragged out the cup holder and moddified the dash slightly to fit.

wiring wise, I wired the controller up to the hazzard switch, all the necessary wires were there.

DEFi.............................SWITCH (00MY turbo 2000)

Red.........12v..............White (silver fleck)
Orange......Ign 12v..........Dark green (black tracer)
Black.......Earth............Yellow (green tracer)
White.......Illumination.....Purple (black fleck)

Easy so far,
Right that's enough, back out in to the cold for tonights fight with the cabling

Andy

Andy,

How did you take the dash apart mate? I've got a blown bulb behind my heater controls and need to know how to get the dash apart. Looking above you've done it, any chance of doing a step by step or some tips? BTW, be interested to see when its done and how the control unit looks - mines in the glovebox!

Cheers m8

Just had 3 gauges supplied and fitted by Nito and must admit he did a great job and they really look good in my MY02 STi. Decided to go with the plastic pod as it fits perfectly with the top of the dash. Not brave enough to fit them myself though!!!

I've just realised once I glue the pod to the top of the glove box the screws will no longer be accesible and being as I want to fit the knocklink in the air vent I am going to have to do that first.
No lit up pods tonight

as for the Service spray,
most good motor factors aught to do it.
I got mine from APD (automotive Parts Distributors) I think they are only a local firm though, sorry .

Andy,
moving on to knocklink !

that's enough for tonight

just to wet your appetite though

Hunt for some flat ABS plastic that is similar to dashboard.
Dismantle battery charger for plastic

cut into an oblong and glue into the facia air vent.

It transpires there is no long cable for me to attach the separate EGT gauge, so nothing can be fixed til I order one
Still, it will atleast give my exhaust chance to arrive
(getting beyond a joke now).......

thrown it at the dash and this is what it's looking like at the mo.
real sh1te pic, by ho hum, I want sleeeep

I think it looks odd with only one air vent filled !
Do you reckon I should buy the Lambda link to fill the gap

Andy

Lookin' good so far Andy, when you use that engine stuff, do you warm the engine up and let it dry itself?

APD are in Gloucester somewhere aren't they?

Gotta agree with Gixerman.

The defis are worth the fun just for the look and the little dance they do when you switch the ignition on.

Love what youve done with the defi controller, what did you have to do to the dash to get it to fit in the cup holder?

Also rather than sealing the pod down, why not use a decent amount of heavy duty velcro?
Only reason i say this i because if you ever go to remove the pod and you use strong glue you end up ripping the inside of your 'flip top lid' off, trust me ive seen it happen.

Please use something you can get off again without causing damage.

Maplins sell plastic ABS boxes that are similar to the dash - may save future battery chargers from being dismantled

I am going to look at dismantling my knock link and lambda link and see if i can mount the leds in the dash cowling somewhere, or the defi pod.

Matt,
APD have a unit in Gloucester, <hunts for address>
can't find map.
at the end of Bristol road where the traffic lights are.
right turn is Quedgley
straight on is dual carriagway.
well turn left then turn right, in front of Vauxhall dealership.
they are up the top of that road on the right, round the back.
Hope you know where I mean.

Pt Holt,
Good idea re - Velcro, will have to raid Ma's sowing Kit
I'll sling up a piccy of what I had to hack off the dash to get the controller in, after I've had me supper.

P20SPD,
I will admit I thought the knocklink would look better than it does, I might pop off to Maplins tomorrow and get a couple of those boxes Chiark mentioned and do it all again
I'm thinking it would look better out of the knocklink box and just have the LED's poking out of the flat area I glued in.
<wondering now if I can get the sticker off the front of the original knocklink box without breaking it >

I'd go for velcro and plenty of double sided tape, having seen the mess it made when an unofficial defi seller (in other words not nito) stuck it down with glue and when the owner came to sell the defis on when selling the car it left a nice nasty split in his dash.

Have a chat with nito about adhesives etc as im sure he uses sensible ones from memory, as we had this very conversation about the above not so long ago as nit also witnessed the mess it made trying to rip the pod out the dash.

Andy from memory Trouts looks good, he has the lambda link in the centre console below the head unit in a piece of black plastic and the knock link on the steering column shroud. Having said that his is a STi, so more space for lambda.

Looks good though.

I am waiting, and i sit there for about 30 mins each weekend holding the link tuning module, to see where it would best be positioned

Sad i know

Steven

ps any spelling mistakes are down to me bein drunk. done 8 pints of guinnnes since 6 oclock(mums birthday) plus 2 pints sam smiths at lunch (chiarks birthday)

For Pt Holt,
this is the left hand side of what was the cup holder.
I removed approx 1 cm of material from each side and the full height of the opening

What do the rest of you reckon to the boost readings seems a little high to me being a standard TD04L ! It is on an PPP ecu, which by the way......
WILL BE FOR SALE in Jan after I have had the link one fitted...

well I have done all I can do till exhaust and patch cable turn up.
got to bloody work in the morning so no trip to Maplins

Andy

Andy, they are obviously peak readings, but judging by the oil temp and pressure you were pushing it a little on the road. The boost pressure looks right, probably that high due to a small overboost. Would expect about 1.2bar normal hold.
