I'd challenge any scooby to a 0-60 run with a Hughes 300 helicopter - it will do the run in <3 secs - and that's just with 160bhp!!
Costs a bit more to service though I suppose and wouldn't be much use in a forest, unless you have some trees that need trimming

If I'm not mistaken, that helicopter's top speed is barely in the 100 knots or something. Scoobies would not only go faster but kill it in the twisties.

Katana, you've obviously never tried a full whack torque turn - it's a bit like hitting a 180 degree corner at 90mph and spreading your spleen all over the dashboard. Get it wrong though , and you'll be vortex ringing your way to a very hard and unforgiving bit of earth...
You're right though, sppose, 120kts is about all you'd get out of a 300 with a good tailwind. Rats... time to make my millions and discover the joys of twin turbines...

This is why I prefer the homebuilt "Mustang Midget". You'd get closer to 200 knots and its dirt cheap(ish) to own and buy at around 10k. The only snitch is is that its a single seater and its on a PFA permit here (no night flying).

There was a race between a dodge Viper [car V10 8000cc] & A USA Viper [plane big engine lots of thrust etc] over a standing start 1/2 mile, the car took off like a very fast thing whilst the plane started up, at 1/2 mile the car was winning, at 1/2 mile whne the plane was at full thrust the plane won, but about 1/4 of the cars length, quite impressive

I raced a Porsche during my basic flying training, Porker driver clearly didnt understand planes work in miles per minute and dont have any speed limits to apply to
My current plane does mach 0.94 and thats about 8 or 9 miles per min
Very refreshing to do Edinburgh to London in 30mins
Still prefer the Scoob though, altho a heli at 50ft through the lakes is a breath taking experience

You might do .94 all the way there mate but you then spend the next week on the deck, panels off, staring at the puddles of hydraulic fluid oozing out of the old girl wondering if it'll ever fly again

When I was in Germany a couple of years ago, the local British Bike Club set up a race against an STi, Lynx Helicopter Ducati 996 and some crazy-****, rear wheel drive, racing TVR on Gutersloh airfield.
I can't remembert the exact distance, but the track surface was pretty wet. Due to the Lynx taking time to get momentum up, he started about 50m behind the machine on the line and the race started when the Lynx was about to fly over him.
To cut a long story short, the results;
1 - Lynx
2 - Ducati (about 1 sec behind)
3 - TVR (about 3 secs behind Ducati)
4 - STi ('bout 2 secs behind TVR
I think it would have been a different matter if the track had been dry.
Funniest damn thing was seeing some pretentious, overpaid Officer losing his brand-spankers Chimeara at about 150 mph on the runway, spinning it all over the grass and coming to a stop with clods of earth, cows and all sorts of ****e covering his car. He sheepishly pottered back past the crowd, stopped by a woman who I believe was his wife, shouted at her to get in and was never seen again!

Everything takes a while to get moving, that's the point!
I can't see organises at the pod allowing me a 20m head start because my car's a little heaver than an impreza, and takes a while to get going!
