Thats funny! I seem to remember that most importers are advertising them for around and over the £30k mark, hmmmmmmmm
A few quick calculations:
£19000 S202
£700 shipping costs
£1970 10% import duty
£3792.25 17.5 % VAT
£1000 ESVA conversions etc.
Grand Total £26462.25 hmmmmmmmmmmmm
I remember certain importers flogging them at £35k.
Now chaps, thats just based on a RRP price, i wonder how much omporters are really getting them for as they buy in bulk. Me thinks i will take a trip to japan and buy the car myself next time. Ile get a holiday in Japan + a car and it will still be a lot cheaper than buying it from the uk importer.
Are we being ripped off???????

£3.5K margin isnt that good on a car Gez
They have to pay VAT on the margin too.
Guarantee you some of the more expensive scoobs i.e. new shape sti's & P1' have almost 5 or 6 grand across them.
TVR garage - more than £10K margin
Middlehurst motorsport - around the £10K margin mark...
bloody hell even vauxhall garages stick a couple of grand across thier cars...
remeber they arnt a charity & are there to make some money (considerably less than you could ever imagine mind you)

The idea of importing a car from Japan is excellent, but it'll be very very hard to achieve if u're doing it on ur own.
To start off with, dealers will not sell u a car if u cannot produce evidence that u have a permanent parking space, then u'll need insurance etc etc. Afaik, government agencies in Japan are very bureaucratic, & all documents are in Japanese.
Perhaps u can try asking importers in Hong Kong, to see whether they will sell u a car without registering it (therefore tax-free). Pre-tax prices in Hong Kong are lower than in Japan.
