How many Type R Coupes in the UK ?
#1
Hello chaps. First time out on the site. Just bought a white 1999 Type R Coupe with 15k miles. The car is awesome but maybe a bit short geared for the motorway. However most of my work is around A roads etc.
Purely for interest - How many other Type R's are there in the Uk ?
Regards

I have seen a couple of white type Rs and a couple of yellow ones but the majority seem to be blue. I guess blue is more popular in the UK (esp rally blue/sonic blue), where as white is a popular colour in Japan IIRC.

I heard on the grape vine that white cars in japan and more sought after than most the other colours, and that they try to avoid importing them to other countries as they are so popular in japan itself..??

I just bought a white STI IV Type R 99 2 door on a T with full Park Lane service history - Man!! those guys know how to construct a bill: average £1200.00 for a service............
Japanese and white cars - much simpler than all suggestions so far, they buy white because it reflects the heat.

I went from a MY99 UK car to a MY99 Type RA, insurance went from £750 with Norwich Union to £950 with A-Plan.
If you need tempting, DRIVE ONE
I used to think my UK car was quick, this one is a totally different thing altogether
As soon as I drove a Type R I knew I had to have one, it took me a few miles and a few weeks looking at some but I got there in the end

I went from a UK 1998 to an RA 2000 its went up from 550 to 850. Then to 950 the year after and I have just renewed at just a touch over 1000. Must say the two cars are similarly modified, exhaust, cosmetics, wheels etc. I am guessing I could get a UK for about 600-700 so about 350 more for me.
It okay until they ask they ask what the "Type RA" stands for

Never tried a UK car, but went straight to look at STI's and EVO's.
Ended up with a Silver Type R with lots of factory extras. Including sunroof and electric heated/Cooled Recaro's.
Never seen another one like it.
When I looked there were Plenty of Silver and Blues, but only a few Black Coupe ones around. No white ones.

So i no it's probably sumwhere in the general technical stuff but being lasy get wots particular trubble/story with piston 3 & big end problem on the type R then Rhybeck & how do ya overcome such risks? I recall 3rd piston is most likely 2 go as it's nearer turbo hot bits or wotever but didn't realise this woz more of an issue for the type R's? Does deresticting them add any particluar risks n all?
Just wondered as u buggers have got my greed gene in operation now guna call insurers 2moz try & scare meself into chillin 4 a bit in the hope that further MY03 price knock downs make diff between me MY97 UK turbo & a STi V4 type R MY98 jobby, reckon that's my new dream as no maff trubble of 99etc with better interior over 97 (slaps himself 2 stop gettin ideas) but on other hand that will still mean i have lost more in depreciation
