Whats the approximate cost of a 2 year extended warranty (4th & 5th years) as my 3 years warranty runs out next sept (03) and with my low mileage (10K) Im thinking that even something like a replaced clutch under warranty is going to make it worthwhile having?

there are various options - either 1 or 2 years and limited or unlimited mileage (from memory the limit is 60k miles).
I went for the 2 year limited mileage option and it cost three hundred and something quid. sorry I cant remember exactly.
the warranty paid for itself immediately as I had to have the cambelt tensioner replaced (very common I believe) which also costs 300-odd quid.

I'd make sure the clutch is covered with the extended warranty and is not treated as a wear 'n tear item.
I didn't thinkthe cover was as comprehensive as the original Subaru one. Unless things have changed recently, the warranty claims are handled by a 3rd-party and not Subaru UK themselves.

Yeah, but I'm a smart@rse
Did anyone get a document with details of what exactly is and isn't covered by the extended warranty. When my renewal came through, I got burgger all.
I nice scanned document for everyone to see should help folk make the decision.

Are all of you, who have bought the warranties, talking about extending a 1 year warranty by 2 years to a full 3 year or talking about extending an existing 3 year warranty further to 5 years which is what I am after. Surely the latter is more expensive as your car is older and therefore more likely to go wrong????

They probably also have the option to refuse extending the warranty depending on how much you've already cost them. If you're in the 1st year of warranty they're unlikely to offer to extend imo until you're in the 3rd year.

Guy's,
It's roughly £420.00 a year for 1, 2 or 3 year extension, does get slighly cheaper pa. for the longer cover. Mileage dependant.
Also warranties are different, ie. extension of 'new' car warranty OR Subaru 'Approved' used vehicle.
The former is virtually an extension of the Subaru UK original cover, the latter I believe is more a 3rd party insured scheme.
Suggest check with dealer. Also be aware these are 'Sold at Service' warranties, ie. they check your car out before agreeing cover.
Hope this helps.
Steve.

£420 a year? My origanal extended warranty from 1 year to 3 was only £380 for the additional 2 years. That cant be right. Guess I'll just have to wait until next time Im down the dealers.

Just got a letter through from Subaru on this as car is three years old next month. Options and prices are:
Impreza Turbo:
12 months or 60,000 miles £266 (whichever comes first)
24 months or 60,000 miles £404
12 months unlimited miles £445
24 months unlimited miles £672
Includes Subaru Assistance and VAT. As mentioned, no details on what it will and will not cover though.
Cheers,

Does the offer of an extended warranty also kick-in when you hit the mileage limit on the standard 3 year warranty?
My car was registered in May 2001, I bought it in Feb 2002 when it had done 17,000miles, its now done 44,000miles and I think there is a 60,000 mile limit on the warranty when new. At this rate I'll hit that by next March. So do I not have a warranty for a year?
Or should I buy a second car and park the scooby in the garage for a year?

Good point.
It does actually say at the bottom of the letter in small print
"Please note that the Subaru new car extended warranty package is only available if your car has covered less than 60,000 miles and has been serviced by an officially appointed Subaru Dealer"
In other words you can't extend the three year warranty if the car reaches 60,000 miles in the first three years.
