Bought CAR on my way to work and they've got a final long term report on their MY01 WRX wagon. And they didn't seem to like it as much as expected. They even said 'For me, the Impreza bubble has finally burst'. There are various other criticisms, some of which relate to the narrower track of the 5dr (more understeer than the 4dr, and less straight line stability).
Now I can't help but think that they're wrong on the differences between 4&5dr (motorway stability is more likely to be affected by the body shape, IMO). I also recall CAR being the first mag to start a Scooby backlash (MY00 tested against Golf V6 4Motion and Audi S3 in late 1999). Why?
Amusingly, Autocar have a final report on their 4dr WRX this week, too, and they liked it. Nice pics of the Rally Blue 4dr MY01 WRX next to a MY00 Wagon in DBM - still prefer the old shape
