Hi!
I have been searching through damaged performance cars on the net, and found this Impreza. It can be seen on the following link:
http://www.w-a.co.jp/sl/ord/2116.html
How much approximately would it cost to get this car back on the road?
Thanks,
-Elliot

Wouldnt even attempt it - you will be able to buy Fuglies for £5:99 each next spring
Wait and get a 'straight' one - oh, yes, is it registered as a write off or NOT? would make ALL the difference

Hi, i know the guys of this company. i've called them several times. they are top guys, shame something happened to me and i couldn't do business with them. your best bet is to give them a call in Japan. but they are one of the cheapest companies around if not the cheapest.

from what i know. they've been very informative about the whole thing. I was about to buy a toyota sera and they basically the described everything about the whole process, the state of the car, the amount of time taken for delivery, what will the car need for SVA, how to do it. Typical Japanese, very helpful

A Lot......that has had a pretty major front ender.....chassis legs to the bulkhead & everything else that fit to them!
Unless you jave contacts in the trade, or work for a Subaru Dealer....thats a lot of money worth to put right.
As said above....airbags are a grand..straight off
plus I reckon it needs to go a jig, with that much chassis damage.
Sorry.....

Hi,
Thank you for your replies.
Sounds like W-A are very good then. Thanks scooby_xt_turbo
I thought it would need to be jigged aswell. It doesn't seem that much of a good buy from what you all have specified.
Around how much would it be to get put right? It would work out cheaper than a non damaged Impreza.
Just have to look out for one which isn't as bad....
Thanks,
-Elliot

Hi,
Ouch! 8 Months is a very long time to wait.
At the moment, I am considering my options for when I buy my car, in 2 years, where I could buy it from.
I would probably be interested in 2 years.
If I was to bring a damaged car in from Japan, there would be no need for an MOT straight away, and how would I go about the SVA test?
Would it also be any harder to get it through customs than the average undamaged car?
Thank you for your help,
Regards,
-Elliot

Leave it alone, it's sooo not worth touching
It's gonna want two legs, two inner wings, two outer wings, bonnet+vents and sound deadening, crossmember, slam panel, radiator + fan, (air con rad), fluids, headlights, paint(most likely all the way down both sides) and by the look of it you could be into timing covers and very possibly an engine rebuild if the bodywork has jammed the pulleys. All that's presuming the floor pan is still straight which I think is unlikely, oh and theres still the airbags and control module which aren't gonna be cheap. Whilst we're on with it, it could also have damaged suspension and wheels too not to mention labour.
It's up to you at the end of the day but even with my contacts in the trade I wouldn't go anywhere near it.

Hi,
Thank you for your replies.
Bob, gosh...that's lots of new things to be bought for it. I suppose it wouldn't be worth the cash if it's going to cost so much to get it roadworthy again.
SiDHEaD,
I am unsure if it had been nicked as it doesn't say on W-A.
Thanks everyone for your help, it is much appreciated.

-Elliot

Elliot, that's the whole thing, if it was economically sensible to put the car back on the road, the insurance company would. They only look at it from a financial point of view, to write a car off is cheaper than to fix it.
On the whole, people buy these cars to either sell for bits or to fix up themselves and then sell on, which in turn covers the labour.
Personally I'd stay clear of this way of buuying cars but if you decide it's the way you want to go then make sure you know what you're buying into, which is I suppose, the point of your thread! Have a look before you buy, take someone with you who knows about fixing cars, for example, I've heard about salvage yards jigging a badly bent car so it looks like a lightly bent car, Joe Public prolly wouldn't spot that. It's also an idea to price parts up before you buy, especially with makes such as Subaru.
Best of luck matey!

Id give 2k max for the car without seeing it..
Bobs talking b0llox though
Doesnt need chassis legs... you can allways pull them out and then cut them open and hammer creases out
Just remember that you dont have to mend a car with new parts..
I could fix that for about 4k with my contacts (assuming no A post, B post and Roof Damage) ... But why is back window broken?
Never buy a car without looking at it.. as bob says about the timing belts... the site says doesnt drive but rolls. hmm suspect.

Ya cheeky ******!
That's very true, maybe you buy another which had been stuffed up the @rse, cut them both neatly down the middle and then weld the two good halves back together, make sure you get another blue one though

lol..
You know what I mean...
And despite what people say about cut and shuts.. they really need to learn about how cars are put together..
If you buy a car thats hit hard on the front corner... then you pull out the corner and then drill out the spot welds from the bent panels and the same on the donor car.. and re-spot weld or seam weld... then it may a quarter of a car from a scrap yard... but it isnt a cut and shut and is as strong if not sronger than when it came from the factory.

Hi,
Thank you everyone for your replies.
Bob, thank you for your advice. I now understand how risky it would be to buy from a salvage yard in Japan.
David, thanks - Buying used parts would be a good idea. I'll just see how I feel about it at the time.
I will let you know how I get on in 2 years when I buy one. I'm currently toggeling with the idea of either an Imported non-damaged Nissan Skyline R34 25GT-Turbo, or possibly a new shape WRX.
I've seen a few skyline's and Impreza's on the net which have been stolen and recovered. There doesn't look to be anything majorly wrong with them except for only a few cosmetic damaged parts like the rear boot lock, door handle. Would you say a stolen and recovered one would be a good investment?
Thank you for your help,
Regards,
-Elliot
