I can't beleive that I have just had my 3rd set of valve caps knicked from my Scoob in 1 year. And these were supposed to be locking valve caps. That's 7 sets in total including the ones knicked off my Pug 306 XSI. I know they don't cost that much, but it's bloody irritating.

Any one know of any locking valve caps that do actually lock, and are as unknickable as possible?

Ditto ... 3rd set gone this week. Resorted to buying metal dome ones from Halfords @ £2.49 for 5 !!!! Don't give a **** if they nick them and they look better than black plastic

You can buy ones from Demon tweeks from £9.50 that have a locking screw and driver to lock and unlock them.

Haven't used them but seen them in the catalogue

Be careful using locking types.

Caught little ******* with a adjusting spanner trying to get mine off, badly scratched the alloy in the process.

Its just not worth the hassle, I was constantly vetting every kid that walked past the car, made me paranoid.

Use black plastic ones now and never had trouble since.

Just get some flush fitting types. Look much neater and not worth nicking.

Iv had the locking type alloy dust caps on mine for a while now without them getting nicked, i discovered that if you drilled a small hole in the actual valve thread just big enough for the locking grub screw to fit in they are next to impossible to nick and they come off easy with the little key that is supplied with them, so no problems checking tyre presures

Question

If they can't get them off what's to say they don't damage the car instead?
I gave up and use the plastic ones now.
Cheers Paul.

I went the black plastic route after I had serviced every youngster in the area with a set of metal ones. Having said that metal ones from Halfords are only about 2.99 for five.

Try putting a bit of copper slip behind them. They won't like that on their hands!

WARNING:

The "Locking" ones DONT WORK. They just make it a pain to re-fit after the little buggers have removed the old pair.

Buy some more - and look at it as a couple of galons of petrol every three months or so (or however long they last).... then you'll stop getting stressed.

Just bask in the knowledge that two BMX's look wicked with your valve caps on

Just use plastic ones!

Wouldn't you have liked a nice shiny set of subaru caps for your BMX when you were young?

Explains why my scoob and my G/F Merc just had 2 knicked before. Both on the same side, so I didn't notice it before.
I'd love to catch them though. I chased 2 kids that lobbed eggs at the car before, but they had too much of a head start. It makes them think before doing it again.

The local "trouble" kids actually like my car and have spent hours talking to me about engines, cars in general. He has just got his first car (badly beaten Fiesta) and has started working on it.

I got buzzed a couple of nights ago and he was standing at the front door grinning. I hadn't realised he knew my flat number.

Handed me two dust caps back and said he noticed two kids being a bit strange near the car so watched them. They took the dust caps and apparently he "kicked the **** out of them" and got them back.

So the best thing is get the local hard kid to watch over the car!
