Question

Can somebody please explain to me the benefit of having a water spray onto the intercooler.I'm somebody who loves to drive my scooby but really is clueless when it comes to the more complex aspects of the car.
Thanx
Paul.

Well, if the fine mist of water spray cools the intercooler fins, this in turn cools the air charge temperature of the air being sucked in, hence the air is denser and more of it is squeezed through the turbo to give better combustion and more power....
so you either have i/c waterspray or you dont
simple (although not if you have been out on the **** HIC)

There is a seperate (from screen wash one) container located by inner wing on drivers side

Unless you rallying the ICWS is only really good for advertising spec when selling!!

Dan, the intercooler is AFTER the turbo, the air is already compressed which is why it needs cooling. Basically, you squeeze the same amount of heat into a smaller area, which explains everything from Diesels to fridges.
Pedant mode off.

Actually my MY02 STi Type UK blah, blah has one. It's tank is on the rhs of the boot and should only be filled with distilled water.

Never used it as I also enjoy the driving without needing to know every widget that does it.

David, the information is for a friend of mine who has just bought a wrx and was wondering what the spray was all about. At least i can let him know now.
By the way the Elvington day was reasonably good,a bit of a poor turn out and nothing that would have challenged your car really.
Yours would have been mental though on that wet runway.
Cheers
Paul.
