Sorry people, but it's that debate again!

I have a 98 WRX with the only real "engine" mod being a ITG panel filter plus scoobysport backbox.

The car has done around 45k. I've used Optimax for the last 3,000 miles. This was only done during the weekends. I drive the car everyday now in a mix of heavy traffic and clear roads (approx 20 miles a day). I can only get 200 miles out of a tank tops plus the car seems slow and unresponsive.

So the questions are

1) Will octane booster (i.e. NF) make a real difference to Optimax in terms of MPG and performance or
2) Should I go back to SUL say Esso plus octane booster again to increase MPG and performance.

Please help

Cheers

Jay

I run Optimax in my PPP UK300. The only other mod is having the resonator section removed. It works ok for me. I have also used Optimax with Fuchs Pro Boost (Available from TSL) which definately improved the performance after a couple of tanks.

Not sure about MPG as thats not what I bought a scooby for

MPG with either and NF is more.

Burns more efficient.

Simple.

Mines a wrx sti, MY99, and Im getting 225 to 265 out of the tank, always using Optimax. Never had any slow/unresponsive issues. Are you upto date with your servicing etc? You letting the engine warm up / cool down properly?

JayRaj -

Been through this discussion before, but the high points are :-

1. Jap cars should NEVER be run on UL only : SUL minimum.

2. Nearly all Jap cars like SUL + octane booster. You should find it runs better with the booster, smoother etc etc, and you are providing the engine with some degree of protection from pinking etc etc.

3. Some, but not all Jap cars, like Optimax + booster. My car, a MY94 STI 1 for instance, doesn't like Optimax + booster, but prefers SUL + booster. I lost nearly 40bhp trying Optimax + booster, and this was on the same rolling road with the same operator.

4. I sell NF, but before I started selling it I bought and tried all the other alternatives. I now sell NF, and use it in my car - draw your own conclusions.

5. There is no point 5.

6. On the older cars, whenever you plan on switching fuels/boosters for any length of time, you should ideally reset the ECU on the car. On the later cars, like the MY98, they should re-adjust themselves back up.
