Do you think that there will be a similar research/development delay in releasing the PPP for the MY03 Sti, or will it be the same parts as for the MY01/02 given the tiny engine differences
I am considering ordering a MY Sti, but I won't unless I can get the PPP with it.

As I've already ordered my '03, I've been asking similar questions. The answer I've been given is that there will be, but it probably won't be available until the summer. Although I'm not sure exactly what they do for the PPP, I'm lead to believe that the new intercooler will require changes to the PPP.

PS To the best of my knowlege, the PPP was never due out until the end of the year anyway, and although dealers were informed that it would be available, they were never told it would be released in the summer, and it's easier for them to blame Prodive and IM that admit they were hasty.

Its not very clever marketing releasing a car then releasing the performance pack (that everyone seems to think the car needs) 3 months before the new model comes out!
maybe I will just go down the import route and get it tuned independently...

Good day Mr Hayward, how the devil are you, you cheeky git!
Just placed an order for an '03. From the reports I've seen, it's got a different turbo (like the Evo), and a few other bits under the bonet, to improve pickup and power lower down the rev range. Should be fun when it arrives.
However, I'm hoping that Autoexpress' estimate of £30k is well wide of the mark. It's £3k more than anyone else has suggested, and with a PPP would make it P1 money. I don't think even IM are that stupid.

The STI type UK was rumoured to be 30K for ages, until the price was released. I find it hard to believe with the amount of competition from hot hatches and other cars(156 GTA etc) that Subaru would pitch the STI at 30K.

Just to let you know Prodrive have employed ECUTEK to write the ECU software for both the new PPP's.
The cars arrrive at there workshop (PE) sometime over the next week for evaluation to begin.

i thought the new turbo and headers were only in the JDM MY03 STI as well as the dynamic differencial.
i hope they put it all in the UK one, but it doesnt look like they will. I can see myself going for a JDM if so.

Medway,
That's a wind up right?
From the ballpark prices I've seen today, it would appear that the STi is going to come in somewhere around the £26,000 mark. According to Autocar today, there have been no engine changes between the 7 and the 8 and that they produce the same power and torque. I think the twin scroll stuff if going to be for the JDM only (thread in drivetrain here and pictures here). Autocar said that you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference in driving between the 7 and 8 (and IMHO that's a good thing)
Ta,
Matt

No wind-up Prodrive have done a deal with Ecutek to write the software and when you see what they have actually produced for the current WRX you can see why.
No restrictors required and true quality programming.
ECUTEK are also launching in conjunction with Prodrive there products in the USA.
Mervyn himself told me this only yesterday when i was up there.

If what Matt is saying is true.. then bad luck to you guys!! Britian gets the worst deal when it comes to Subarus, so many damn restrictions, you need PPP just to get close to the JDMs. My sympathy goes out to you.

If it's true about ECuTEK, don't people find it amazing that a company that has been going less than a year is now responsible for mapping the PPP ECU. Great credit to them but what does it say about Subaru and Prodrive. Surely they could have done the same with previous versions of the PPP?
Also, Why don't the company responsible for the JECS ECU release some software similar to DeltaECU and make some money that way instead of letting ECUTEK have the whole market to themselves!
Edited because I was rushing first time I typed it
