TA-288 - Motorola - Two-way radio (walkie talkie)
#1
The Motorola one has been discontinued and a much better one launched.
I think its called TA6000 or something. I know a guy who works for 'em! I'll have a dig around and find out more about prices and specs.

Plantie, bear in mind that the 288 uses a non-standard connection for headphones/mikes. The TA200 whilst not as good (slightly larger, no re-chargeable batteries) uses standard accessories.
Even if the TA288 is discontinued., the point might still be valid for whatever you end up buying....

Ref Paul Habgood`s comments:
I am in complete agreement, but, may I suggest that the subject heading "General Questions" is to say the least ambiguous.
To eliminate this problem (if in fact it is a problem) wouldn`t it make sense to make the heading:
"General Subaru Related Questions"
thus falling in line with the other heading "Non Subaru Related"

Given that this thread is still in the General Questions forum anyway I'll add to bit about the original question.
You may scoff but I just bought 2 Binatone handsets for £49.99 from Argos for use on a recent trip to France. For general communication when travelling in convoy they were excellent and certainly a lot more convenient than having to use a mobile phone.
I can't really comment on their range over longer distances but they did the job for us. I did look at the Motorola ones but IIRC they were at least £100 each.

I think what they use at some of the meets are PMR446 2 way radios, The Link sell them at around £50-60 a pair, It does not matter what make they are as long as they are PMR446 compatable.

Yes but remember the cheaper models only use the first main 8 channels. The models like the goodmans and the motorola use 8 main channels with I think 30 or 31 sub channels.
Most scooby people use channel 7/25 a cheaper unit would not be able to pick this up.
The goodmans are the cheapest unit that have this feature, they are £79.99 for a twin pack at Argos / Index...

Hiya m8, think it could be a 220 but I'll check tonight. Just seems to have the main channels so wouldn't pick up 7/25.

Just checked, even worse they're 110
Still it maintains continuity keeps the performance on par with my driving.
Same with the Scooby, saw the car seemed the right product, seemed the right price. Now then what was I told about learning from your mistakes?
Thanks for the help

We tend to use 2/1 up here in the Midlands, which avoids this problem, and others!
Remember not all sub-channels are the same on different makes!
Do a search on 'PMR', there is a lot of info in there.
