Check chassis code here to determine which WRX model you really do have. This webpage gives you the full list and brief description too.
Hope this helps put minds at ease.

I've just seen an advert for the following car and cant believe they were even manufactured:
95 M plate Subaru Impreza Wrx STI
Metallic Silver
black sports seats
Alloys
Air Conditioning
£8995
All sounds normal?? Well theirs just one more thing its an Auto!I have seen one or two turbos/wrxs but an STI? im amazed.
The same place also has a 0151 Sti prodrive, i know which one i would choose. :-)

I'm probably wrong here, but according to the SIDC FAQ
http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm#1.3 This is the rarest Impreza in the UK
1.8GL"
A very special special! In 1993 Subaru UK brought in 6 Impreza WRX RSs, the development car which led to the RA. Due to type approval regulations, the cars were registered as 1.8GLs! 3 went to Prodrive and were presumably smashed to bits in a forest, while 3 went to Subaru UK who later sold them as used cars. At least one is known still to exist. Yes, it says 1.8GL on the registration document. Yes, it has a 2 litre engine with a huge turbo under the bonnet ..."

LOL @ Chris.. But i am pretty sure that there has never been an auto impreza STi produced. It could have been converted by some crazy fool, but why would somebody even consider doing that??? Have you seen the car?

i am dying to know more about my 93 wrx wagon.
it has SA on the boot, and apparently should have had an auto box, (like the sti mentioned), but was fitted post-production - mine is a manual though.
any ideas about the SA bit, akin to RA?? very lost on this one - help me learn more about my pride and joy!

Just out of interest how do i find out what cars Subaru did and didnt manufacture?? Is their a list some where or do i contact Subaru direct, Im just interested. Is there something that i can see on this car or documents that will confirm if Subaru did or didnt make it?

Mista weaver the Impreza SA is a spec level that was supposedly available only on ModelYear94 WRX Sport Wagons which came 50 kg lighter and left out some trim like the lower rear spoiler, when the autobox was ticked on the options list they received a Variable Torque Distribution set up instead of the viscous coupling centre differential.
To check that your car is a ModelYear94 and not MY93 check the applied model code number on the Vin plate and it should be GF8B58D for the SA and GF8B58P for the WRX auto Wagon. With the SA wagon producing the same 220PS@6,000rpm and 206.6 lb ft @3,500rpm as the other wagons apart from the STi Wagon which produced 250PS@6,500 rpm and 228lb ft@3,500rpm, strangely enough it has the same applied model code as the STi Wagon and WRX Wagon, with only the WRX auto having the model code of GF8B58P.
This information was taken from the book "you and your Subaru Impreza Turbo" by Chris Rees, well worth going on any Scoobyneters Xmas list. I suppose the different cars having the same applied model code could be down to them being modified post production into the different specs available.

Neil that picture looks more like a diff lock indicator to me...
The auto light on the top, not sure what that's all about though.

Neil,
As others have said, that's the adjustable centre diff indicator on the new JSM STi. There is an automatic mode which the indicator shows. Sadly, the EU cars don't seem to be getting this goody which can really make the car hanlde well
