I have discovered why POC changes his car more often than his pants

i find getting into the car on a freezing morning, starting it up and holding it at the redline for a min or two gets the engine very hot very quickly

Pete,

I always worry about pouring hot water on a cold screen, mine currently looks like a 'join the dots picture' with stone chips not sure it would take the quick temp change... perhaps boiling water would be more fun and I could claim for a new screen on the insurance

JGM

Edited as someone had switched some keys on my keyboard about.. well that what it looked like.

Question

Have read about these gadgets.
20 quid for a 200 watt heater using the ciggie socket. has any1 used one as i have to sit for 3-5 minutes waiting for the front screen to defrost/demist.
Just wondering if they were useful or rubbish

Nearly 17 Amps through the ciggy lighter socket???

Personally, I wouldn't do that, as I don't like things melting around my feet...

Buy an ice scraper!

I actually find the Impreza heater heats up quicker than any other car I have used/ownered.. switching the aircon on speeds this even more.. although not something i do.

There was an advert in 'for sale' for heated front screens? I didn't look just saw the title.. take a look

If you try that with an imprezas wiring, hopefully you'll blow the fuse. If you don't, you WILL melt the wiring. Waaay to much current...

Years ago I bought one of these. Completely useless.

Pour a litre of hot (not boiling) water over the screen. Instant demist that lasts until the heater is up to temp.

Exclamation

If anyone is thinking of getting the heated front screen (I was) remember to get it fitted by a competant installer.

IIRC there were some threads about rust on roofs because of shoddy fitting. I'm sure Neil Smally will dig out the thread

My misses told me not to buy one because my car doesn't come out of the garage in winter I can't see her reasoning though!

Water for ya screen doesn't need to be boiling, or even hot for that matter. Tepid water will do the trick!

Take the screen out and leave it indoors untill the weather gets better.
That way you don't have to worry about ice scrapers and all the demisting fuss and nonsence

Or pay a small child to vigorously rub the screen through the night. This has the added bonus of being a mild theft deterrant.

Being from up north we have problems with bogus gangs of window rubbing small children.

Dont trust em unless you can clearly see their I.D.!

I;ll keep my screen indoors thank you very much.

You can demist from the comfort of your drives seat - with a can of hairspray and a lighter ...
