Justin,

I've got nothing to do with NF anymore - hence why the phone is probably dead or not being answered

Give dingy a call - 07779 330979

"Just changed up into 4th in the Fat Boy Mobile, nailed it, dodged around some bloke who had clearly lost it at the hairpin, thank god for a full fuel tank"

Apex photography could claim the rights to this photo but probably won't

If it spins while *you* are out driving it, it's *your* fault. No ifs, buts, the moon was in Saturn or you had jelly and ice cream for tea, you overstepped the limits
You dumb *****!!!!!!!!!!! Do you lot not have half a ******* brain between you!!!!!!!!!! Please find anywhere on this site where I state 'It wasn't my fault'!!!!! All I've been trying to get across for the last 3 odd days is that I didn't go too fast and lose control because I couldn't handle the car at that speed. There were other elements involved that contributed to me losing control! If I'd misjudged the corner, went in too fast, paniced, lifted off and spun then I would by crying into my coffee with shame for having been so stupid! What actually happened is that I was caught out by something I didn't predict or anticpate for...Its still my fault for **** sake, if I hadn't been pushing the car I wouldn't have got fuel surge at all!!!! Why is this so hard for you people to understand??? Have you been educated or what??????

I HAVE NOT BEEN TRYING TO BLAME OTHER THINGS SO THAT I CAN FEEL BETTER BY THINKING IT WASN'T MY FAULT. I'M JUST TRYING TO MAKE YOU REALISE THAT YOU NEED TO BE BLOODY CAREFUL AND BE SURE YOUR CAR IS FULLY ABLE TO GO THE SPEEDS YOU'RE TRYING TO GO AT.

'KIN HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and with regard to the above quote what a lot of ****!!!! I'm sure there are 1000's of insurance claim forms out there where a spin was involved without a fault claim against the driver! What if you minding your own business and someone rams into the side of you spinning you. What about a blow out???

Don't forget to put some petrol in! After spending all that money on tyres discs and pads, it would be a shame to have surge again and thereby waste it all

Ok! East Fortune airfield it is then! My test will involve cornering hard to the right with my foot planted on the gas with low fuel and it shall remain on the gas until the car negotiates the corner successful or spins! That way I'll know for sure if surge is violent enough to produce the effect of lift off.

Don't you think you're going to a lot of effort to prove you're not a crap driver?

Proving whether I'm a good/bad driver is not the point Its a science experiment to see if sudden loss of power due to fuel surge can upset my car enough to spin it. Simple.

<FLAME SUIT ON>
Tell you what boys, I must be the biggest *****-nancy subaru driver there is in the world. On this BBS I have read about people losing the back end while drifting round bends due to "fuel surge" not saying there is no such thing as fuel surge but why have I never had it in 3 and a half years of scoob ownership? (fuel surge that is ) Then there are the numerous posts about how "I needed an engine rebuild at 40k miles" due to the STi having a notorious soft engine.
Seems as though there are a few people that don't know how to drive their car quickly and still look after the car.
As was said about Graham Hill : Far quicker driver than Stirling Moss, but Stirling could nurse a sh4gged car round a track to win a race.
My car has 88,000 miles on the clock and has been driven pretty hard, yet there is no smoke or signs of engine wear. Is it maybe that a lot of people have taken the "bullet proof" reliabilty tag that Subaru have as a licence to go ragging their car around the countryside 24/7, then when something goes wrong blame it on, "poor design" or "design flaws".
<FLAME SUIT OFF>

Anyway happy SAFE driving.

Dougie

Maybe it effects different models do different degrees? I've had it a few times in my MY99 and every time it has been a very violent deceleration....far worse than fuel cut. I get angry with myself every time it happens cause it can't be good for the engine but I always forget to check fuel levels before pushing it For the record I don't find you have to corner hard at all to get it if the fuel is really low.

Fuel surge is something to avoid if you don't want to make holes in pistons. A compression issue due to this mid bend would make quite a good engine braking effect and no doubt unsettle the car.

Factor in high lateral forces and poor rear rubber relative to the front and it might, just maybe, spin the car

You never know

I have had fuel surge a few times now, when exiting round about etc. At first i thought that i had broken the gearbox of something like that, the car declerated that quickly it locked my seat belt when it threw me forward. First back end went light, but i was heading out of the roundabout in a near straight direction anyway, so no major drama there. It has happened a few times since and i just keep my foot planted on the accelerator and it pulls it self out. In fact i got that used to it doin it at a certain speed with a low fuel level, that i can almost judge when it happens.

i am afriad it is just one of those scooby design floors that we all love, like the juddering clutch etc !

Kenny I am saying the engine could let go if you have fuel surge. It is not a safe event at all.
