"I can honestly say you are the first person that has ever asked me about that" says bloke in STi shirt looking after the UK STi at the Motorshow...

Also: "I don't think they do one in Japan either.."

Well I'd buy one. Or a WRX that included the 'flared' wheel arches and a track the same width as the saloon. Otherwise I shall have to stick with my classic shape wagon. Which will save money... guess which is most likely...

Note to Scoobynet populace:

WOULD ALL THOSE GOING TO THE MOTORSHOW PLEASE SPECIFICALLY EXPRESS INTEREST IN AN STI WAGON AT THE SUBARU STAND.

AND IF YOU'VE ALREADY BEEN, PLEASE PHONE THEM UP WITH A SIMILAR REQUEST STARTING "BY THE WAY, I FORGOT TO ASK..."

THANK YOU.

Might help??

Well I basically told him how I'd spent STi money on uprating my WRX wagon.

Unfortunately he was probably too much of a muppet to be able to do anything with this information. Would have been better off having a rant at one of the scooby-babes in the blue overalls instead...

Below is an extract of an email recd from IM about the time of the Paris show having asked the I WANT A STI WAGON question, so THEY HAVE had the question before & i got the same answer
----------------------------------------------------------------answer your queries. Information about the new Impreza has only just been made
available to them. A European wide embargo was placed on all materials relating
to the car, until it had received its official European launch at the Paris
Motorshow on Thursday of last week. The dealers have since received official
press packs and images and there are further images available for their use on
our dealer extranet.
The vehicle will receive its UK launch at the 2002 Motorshow, along with the
brand new Forester. Please come and visit us in Hall 2 if you get the chance
and see the Impreza up close.
I am sorry to say that there are no plans to produce a 5 door version of the
STi Type UK, nor does the factory, to my knowledge, produce a 5 door STi for
the home market. The new WRX model does now output some 225 PS and your dealer
will be able to advise on any performance upgrade options that may be
available.

With very best wishes

Subaru (UK) Ltd

It's a worry that Subaru UK/IM seem to see the wagon as a lower-spec Impreza derivative, even in WRX form. If their Japanese associates can't make them understand, they should nip down to their local Audi showroom instead...

There were links to something called an STi(EURO) some months ago, tho' whether on SN or IWOC I can't remember. For sure there was an STi Wagon on the pages there. Can anyone recall the link (Steve B???)

Cheers

Too bad, FHI. No STi wagon.

If you did an STi8 wagon, I'd be first in the que, forgetting all my ambitions for another old 911 as a 'toy' 3rd car.

There used to be a trend years ago for the Jap youngsters to buy wagons; either just to be different, or more discrete.

I have to admit that the 4dr STI grabs too much attention, as much as I'd like one.

Nothing better than overtaking someone in an estate with roof rails, a baby seat, bootful of shopping and a mother-in-law trying to hold down her lunch.

Or how most underestimate what it can do...
eg.
18yr old babysitter - 'This car has good accelera.....'
<twisty roads>
18yr old babysitter - <silence>
</twisty roads>
18yr old babysitter - <sigh of relief>

Yea, bring it on , STI Wagon would sell very well in UK .

Hell, how do you think Volvo sold "shed" loads of T5 Estates, enter the estate in touring cars and wack a Turbo on the road model, = loads a sales.

Their is an STI Wagon for sale on autotrader @ the mo (import obviously)

I asked the IM rep on the stand at the Autosport show as well. Said I would replace my MY98 PPP ++++ Wagon with an Sti Type UK Wagon if it existed. He told me that I was the first person to say that. I told him that from what I have read on here that (ecxuse my French) is b0ll0cks and suggested he go and check it out.

I also suggested he might make a trip to his local Audi showroom.......

He was also unaware it existed as JDM model, he was also unaware that there is a JDM Evo Wagon (detuned I know).

What a MUPPET

Just goes to show (yet again) that IM have absolutely no idea of how to assess the UK market.....

Speaking of wagons,
Waited until my other half's back was turned today and took a mooch down to the local Scoob Dealer (colchester) and had a sniff around their demo car, a black MY03 wrx wagon.
Looked very nice from what I could see of it and am tempted to arrange a test drive.
They've also got a Treg classic wagon with wood trim and some funny electronic guage pack in the centre console, anyone seen these before?
Have yet to drive a scoob though (200sx owner) and would rather drive classic/bugeye/MY03 back to back to get a decent perspective.

Still very tempted to convert to Scoobyism and a wagon seems the way to go, one question as I forgot to look today, does the MY03 have that sodding silly aerial in the A pillar or have they managed to put it elsewhere????????????????

Cool

Don't forget IM decide what they want and then it happens at the top level. The staff further down the list turn up for work and deal with what is presented before them..... THATS IT.

I have driven an STi MY01 Wagon with the *tiptronic* style G/box, quirky and bloody quick.

That's a rare one Mike, as it was only released with the 6 speeder here...

It missed out on the Brembo brakes (did not fit) and had no front LSD option, either.

It's not a question of not bringing it in, it's more the fact that there is no STI 8 wagon anywhere in the world to bring into the EU!

It's been dropped from the JDM lineup for MY03.

You'll need to petition higher than IM for this one

IM would not even bring in the STI 7 Wagon. Anyway Subaru may include it in the new Impreza which I believe is due in 2004 so presumably we should start emailing Japan, possibly they did not want to bother on the stop gap 8, you never know, UK may even get the higher spec engines with the 9.

If you are desperate you could always go for a JDM WRX Sportswagon.

250ps AVCS engine, and more torque down low than an STi these days and plenty quick, IMHO. WRBlue is on the colour list, too. Or you could find an STi wagon second, but they are rare - hence the demise
