just whipped the rocker cover off the cosie to change the gasket. I noticed that it was sealed down, o I need to reseal it and if so what with?
Also, Do I need to replace the half moon seals near the vernier pulleys or will they do okay if I leave them.
Lastly, I have noticed that the area where the plugs are is submerged with oil, Is this normal?

I did this just months before selling my cossie.

So, in order........

.....I did seal the new gasket back down, used something like instant gasket from Halfords / Motorworld, just to make sure there were no leaks......

.....half moon seals should be ok, just clean em up and again, I used a little instant gasket to ensure no leaks.....

.....area where the plugs are submerged with oil. My car certainly wasn't like that and I would assume that this suggests a leak in the rocker cover gasket , leaving oil get into this area.

I didn't have any leaks after so I guess I did it ok

use a genuine ford gasket.
do not use sealing compound on the gasket, just make sure you torque it down in the correct sequence.
use new half moon seals, they distort once used.
seal just where they touch the gasket with a small amount of selant.
the oil on the plugs is due to the gasket leaking. it should be dry.

 

You've got oil round by the plugs as the gasket is leaking in the middle. Whenever I've had mine off I've always used a new gasket and half moons to be on the safe side (and save having to do it again), but thats just me being cautious
