How does the performance of the MY01 5 door compare with the 4 door?

The old shape (classic?) 5 door reputedly had a better balance and weight distribution than the old car.

The MY01 5 door has a slightly narrower track than the 4 door. How does this affect handling?

Is the 5 door much more noisy inside especially with a decat exhaust? I have a wife with acute hearing! She just about tolerates MY98 4 door with scoobysport decat centre and backbox.

The 5-door is, and always has been, the one to have.

IMHO it looks even better than the saloon in the new shape - no stupid spoiler!!

If you are worried about the noise - do not put a loud exhaust on!!

I'm not worried about the noise its just the wife. Its all a question of what I can get away with

I drive a MY01 5 dr and also test drove a 4 door as I had the same concern. Belive me the noise inside is not a problem IMHO. Whilst I am not as mad keen as some of the guys on here I am seriously considering changing the exhaust so that I can hear the engine note a bit better!

Anyway the dog fits in the 5 dr better

In my humble opinion, to feel the differance between to standard, brand new models, you'll have to be giving it some. Drive both and see which you think is better.

If your wife might give you grief, and you are worried about the noise when you put a loud exhaust on, use some gaffer tape to shut her up :-)
