MY01 Resonator - removed
Hi,
Just thought I would let everyone know that I have removed the air intake resonator from my '01.
It was really easy (tool about 20 - 30 mins) and the difference in sound (from inside the car) is incredible! You can hear the turbo spooling up and the dump valve operating.
I'm not sure if it's going to be intrusive at the moment but i'll give it a while and let you know.
PS - TurboXS have measure and extra 3-4 hp (atw) after removing the resonator although this won't be noticeable it all helps
Darren.

It's easy.
It's in the wheel arch at the front. All you need to do is remove the air intake tube, the wheel arch liner and then undo the two 10mm nuts holiding the resonator in place and remove it from underneath (one of the nuts is in the engine bay)
Cheers,
Darren.

The only downside that I know of is the noise, and it's not much. You can hear the turbo spooling up and the dump valve operating, but it's only when accelerating.
I didn't even notice mine this morning with the radio on.
I have not yet checked to see if the dealers mind that the resonator is removed (for warranty)

Does the MY01 use the same MAf?

Mike wood made a comment about this and said that its a bad idea as contaminents could bugger the sensor.....

OK, here's the update on the resonator I promised.....
Having run the car without the resonator for a week I re-fitted it tonight, the almost constant sound of the turbo spooling (a whistling type sound) it was starting to get on my T!TS
It took about 10 minutes to refit, if you do want to try it, you can remove/replace the unit by simply jacking the front of the car up, removing the clips that hold the front section of the wheel arch liner in place and fold it back (carefully), there are just 2 10mm nuts holding the unit in place.
Cheers,
Darren.
