Well, I've just got one, so congratulations to me

Anyone else got one? Anyone any idea how many there might be? I'd guess around 50?

I *think* Subaru made all the dealers register their P1's in early Sept so they can all be classed as 'sold', so I guess there won't be any on a '52' plate.

Isn't the next in sequence '02'? 0=March, 5=September with the 1,2,3 etc being the year? So, March 2002 = 02 and Sept 2002 = 52?

Err, not wanting to be padentic or anything, just dead jealous..

Question

LOL @ MartinM

Apparently, this new system is good for 40 years, but with only 1 digit to show the year, how will this work??? Will March 2010 be 06 (0=March 6=years from 2010-2019)?

I think it will be 60 (i.e. 50 for March + 10 for the year).

Error post.

Pesky computer.

What I was trying to do was edit my post to say that it I think the March/Sept numbers will begin 6/1 for 2010 to 2019. Is this correct?

Yes, I think you're right which means the system should be OK for 50 years, not 40? (well, 49.5 as they're not issuing 01).

There is an answer... costs a couple of quid extra but: buy a private (old-style) plate.

I saw S6OOB was still for sale, and lots of S60OB_ ones - all £250 I think.

You know it's cooler than those 51 plates!

I can't work out why they've gone for these '51' style plates. I mean, '51' could be 'SI' and '01' can be 'OL' (e.g. CO 01 something), but what about 52, 02, etc.? Kind of restricts you to words that have 'S' or 'O' in for the next 10 years. DVLA must get significant revenue from selling 'desirable' plates, and it looks more difficult to get one that's special. With the prefix ones, even if you couldn't spell a word, you could go for <prefix><single_digit_number><your_ initials> which looked OK as it was shorter than a 'normal' plate. <two_letters><year_digit><your_init ials> will just look crap.
