Classic Shape vs New Age WRX
#1
I don't want to provoke an argument or even a strong discussion because I believe each and every scooby is great in its own right and much is down to personal desire...
However, I own a Classic shape 95' WRX Jap Import and evidently am quite passionate about it as I am with other scoobs...
I am interested in knowing what the 'scooby community' think who currently own the new age or post 1999 model impreza of the classic shape?
PS. I would love to have a P1 or equivalent but can't afford it yet...

Old/Classic shape all the way mate...it`s just got so much more characutre than the newer models. It was the 22B look/shape and curves that got me into scoobs. And the P1.....Ultimate Scoob IMO.

Matt,
no offence buddy to your contribution, I guess I am open to all contributions as is the rest of this community to their posts; but do you yawn because it is past your bed time or you think this is a boring topic to discuss...

classic or new age
I had a UK classic new from Aug 1st 98 and loved it to death, drove it from Sheffield to bucks to run it in, absolutely brilliant. Went back after three years when the company lease run out
Got a bugeye, performance was not great but got the PPP package that made it as good and general handling was better
Depends on your circumstances and cash. If you have the ability to bring you bugeye up to scratch then the WRX is not a bad package. Bugeyes big plus, the interior and general build quality seems somewhat improved, no rattle after 16 months, that must be a first 4 subaru.
edited because my english is cr@p
cheers

I owned a UK MY99 (std) and now a Limited Edition 'Bug Eye'MY02STi7 PPP'd loved both cars for differing reasons MY01 more refined smoother Heavier slower
As for comparisons sorry they don't and cant compare. What can you compare Price when new, power to wieght, handling and school runs.
Try both in day to day mode and blatting it mode. "You Pays yer money......etc" which ever you buy, buy it because it will suitYourneeds.......... and enjoy

Please don't get me wrong... I raised this discussion to find out whether new shape scooby owners look down upon classic shape owners because we have an 'old shape' car... that's all...
Don't forget I have a 95' WRX... It wasn't to compare the the two as mentioned in my opening statement. ;o)

I have owned a MY97 and a MY01 both from new. I loved my MY97 during the 3+ years of ownership, felt much faster and more thrilling to drive than the MY01. Had the MY01 PPP'ed but still don't get the same driving experiance from the MY01. My main problem with the MY01 are the constant problems with hestitation which no one can seem to solve, and its a problem that has put me off owning another scoob.

adeel.a - there have been a few "lengthy" discussions on this subject, 1 only finished last week in fact when the classic-fugly owners (as they are now known), gave up the ghost, so to speak, when someone mentioned power-2-weight ratios
I myself don't get involved with these types of comparrisons

Shunty,
Typical old shape driver, can't be bothered to make links clickable!
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=142875
I don't look down on any car in the Impreza range... why would I they all have merits and downsides.
Some people get too hung up on desperately defending their car and fail to see the bigger picture... if it wasn't for the Impreza we would be forced to drive cars like the Vectra!

I agree with zilch,
Had both models and liked them both in their own way. For me, I hate rattles and my MY99 had plenty, but my MY02 hasn't. I do also agree that the MY99 was more of a drivers car. It's all down to you, drive a MY00 and a MY01 and make your own mind up.

Shunty,
You are allowed to talk to "old-new-age" owners but only if you get rid of the green-eyed monster that follows you around!
The car is in the dealers tomorrow and hopefully that will be the end of that.
I also figured out what was causing the vibration noise coming from the gearshift... the grub screws had come loose and allowed the gear **** to vibrate in the certain positions and revs! Soooo glad I didn't ask about that in the Technical!
