Question

Looking at towing a car 200miles on a trailer..

Anyone know whether the car would be covered on a normal insurance policy whilst on a trailer or would I need to take out another one?

Car is only worth about 3k so I suppose a policy for a 200miles journey on a trailer is not going to cost me much anyway?

Cheers and sorry for another bizarre thread by me

Cool

Good question, I have always assumed that I'm covered, but it would be worth speaking to your insurance company.

I've never thought about it before but towing may even invalidate the existing policy,if you haven't notified them

It should be covered third party on the towing vehicle - I had a similar question about bikes once before - what happens if they fall off the car......

Jolly, give Fairmont Insurance a call(www.fairmontinsure.co.uk). they insure my car and trailer. They may be able to help.

Wink

I think you are right in that the trailer is covered third party by the towing car so you are legal.. so if I clip a parked car with the trailer for example it is covered..

And likewise I guess if someone ran intyo the back of the trailer/car then I would be covered on my insurance to get the money off the other persons insurance.

What happens if the car fell off? got a blow out on the trailer..
etc.. I'd not get payment for the car I was towing from the towing cars insurance that is for sure.. whether covered by the car being towed insurance I will have to check.. although it is not insured yet as I haven't bought it hence the post as I need to gather some info before I sound like a muppet on the phone..
Also if it is not possible then I won't be buying the car..

this gets more complicated by the minute.

Cheers
