Scary moment driving back from Cornwall yesterday. Half way up the A303 at 100+mph the check engine light came on. Pulled over and switched off engine and looked under the bonnet. Nothing obvious.

Started up the engine and the check light didn't come back on again, so I drove back to Suffolk, without further event.

It's a MY00 with 12K miles on the clock. what should I do now? Should my dealer have a look at it?

get it to the dealer asap. it could be serious.

my my01 did a similar thing, and when i took it in the dealer plugged it into their computer and it was diagnosed as a faulty timing sensor.

You need to get it connected to a select monitor ASAP. That will read your ECU for any error codes. Don't be surprised if none are there, it has happened to me. Luckily, I got a code the second time - Oxygen sensor.
If you do need to drive it take it easy just in case it is something serious (not trying to scare you )

Popped down to my dealer today and it was recorded as an oxygen sensor problem. They diagnosed it as a glitch since the light has stayed off since.

They reset the ECU and my perception is that the engine is a lot smoother and has more torque than before.
