Classic for classic money.....?

So........... the MYO3 seems to be 'slightly' better received than the bug eye.
Subaru are cutting £3k off the bug eye.
When are the values of the classics going to pick themselves off the floor?
EVO quotes at the back of each issue:"+ Destined for classic status, - thirsty"
Now someone tell me WHEN?

Depends how old the car is and he mileage/ history.
A well modded car (and not to extremes) will probably help residual values as will the colour (hehehe, Sonic Blue anyone?!)
The only trouble now is that the market has become saturated with cheap imports from Europe and Japan, so the car is far more accessible than it once was.
Which could also explain why I never get a friendly wave no more

I think it will still depend on peoples preference I prefer the classic scooby(yes I have one) but I must say the new 2003 is stunning so maybe it will affect the MK2 scooby more......who can say.

I find that making the 'Nescafe hand shaking signal' as perfected by Gareth Hunt doesn't endear me to too many other road users either...strange.

Really ? I thought I would be getting a rally car !
The onlything wrong with the photos you posted m8 is that they are a wagon....nothing against them just I prefer the saloons.

AFAIK a 'classic' (as determined by classic car mag I believe) must be an unmodified car. I guess many scoobs don't fit into this definition of 'classic' status. Currently it's just a term people use for the OLDer scoobys. They think it sounds better to call it 'classic' shape rather than the 'old shape' which is the term people use for just about every other car there is. IMO of course.
To me, there's the Mk1, the Mk2, the Mk3 and soon to be the Mk4. Well, in reality it's the Mk1, the Mk1 & a half, and the Mk2 and soon to be the Mk2 and a half since there's only really been one major change, the others facelifts etc.

Sorry but I like the looks of the scooby It's not attractive and a subtle but way like the S2000 or new M3 but I like the scooby and EVO looks in that they are agressive and raw looking - they are not just halfordesk stick on's either IMO as the cars general shape and other detailing help it to successfully wear its scoops and spoilers in a way that wouldn't work if you just tacked them onto a mondeo, vectra, 406, etc.

yeah, but SB - you used to own a saxo..nuff said
at least evo skyline got it right, big in yer face, mean looking motor (if that's yer cup of tea), classic scoobs like, P1 (the best looking motor out there)RB5 etc....
the old fugly & new fugly appear to me to half assed attempts to get in line with the company car driver, hence the more rounded lines. We have guys at our place who don't even know what they have bought, they are just getting it because it fits on their budget car allowance. You have lost the enthusiatic owners now I think.
Anyway we could be here for ever arguing the toss......
If they brought out the new shape & re-designed it on the original classic you new owners would ALL be secretly pleased....c'mon admit it!!

Doh, Shunty I meant to make the distinction between the classic and buyeye. Whilst the buyeye's looks have grown on me I do still think its half assed as well. It doens't know whether to be in your face or try to be subtle and gets caught in no mans land IMO

Seems to me that the biggest influence on classic status is rarity.
That's why all japanese cars seem to fall into a never ending depreciation spiral.
Think of some of the great japanese cars from 10 years ago, like the Nissan 300ZX Twin turbo, now available for about 50p.
Even indisputable classics like the Skyline R32 GTR are still falling in value every year.
The only really valuable old jap car is the Toyota coupe from the 60s that looked like an E-type. Because it's rare.
I reckon the only Impreza that will ever hold value will be the 22B.
