Help! Please explain how "immobilizer" light is meant to work
#1
I have just finished transplanting a 1999 WRX UK engine into a USA Impreza with a wiring loom I built. I have spark but no fuel and suspect the UK immobilizer system. To solve the problem, I would appreciate someone explaining HOW the imobilizer is meant to act. There is supposedly a light in the instrument cluster that says "imobilizer". Does this light go out when the key is inserted? What I am looking for is basically a description of the starting procedure and what to watch for if the key is good, and what to watch for if there is something amiss(light etc.)
thanks in advance,

to start the car the light must be on. Two events can occur:
1: Press the arm/disarm get in, start the car
2: If you take too long to get into the car and start it the light goes out and the engine becomes imobilised. Now you have to turn the key to pre-ignition and press the arm/disarm button to diasble the imobiliser and therefore start the car.
Not sure whether this will help you, try posting in security or technical.

Or..
Get out of car and lock doors. Keep pressing fob until your sure doors are locked (immobiliser on).
Wait a minute.
Unlock doors, start engine straight away. If it doesnt fire it COULD WELL BE the immobilser is still on - but not definate i guess.

do you mean the transponder immobilizer thats built in to the key. if your using your key but a different ecu then you will need to get the key coded to start the engine. it also has it's own little ecu as well the immobilizer system so you might need to transplant that as well.

Ok, when you say the light, you mean the one in the instrument cluster? I have the coded key, but not the "remote" button. So let me get this straight:
1. light is out
2. unlock car (using driver's door lock since I have no remote)
3. light comes on for breif period
4. insert key, start car
Can someone tell me if this sounds ok? I think my problem is I didn't hook the imobilizer up to the power locks which appears to begin the "start" process.
