how do you maintain a scooby?
#1
this is a serious question. i reckon i know how to do it tbh. my dad is after a scooby turbo and i reckon its a waste of time as he wont look after it.
so im after advice of this thread that i can print off and present to him explaining why you need to maintain em. he has a ZX at the mo which hasnt been washed in months, hasnt had an oil change for the best part of a year and the only reason it got that was coz he knocked the bottom end out thru lack of maintenence. so please tell him wot he has to do....
for his sake, and the poor scooby who he will be adopting...
thanx in advance... if you could explain why u do it as well it would help.

Not the car for him
Scoobs have 2.0 engines which chuck out a lot of power. Therefore they need a lot of care and attention. Give them that they are great. Don't they will melt very quickly. Oil change every 7,000 miles many people do every 5,000 miles. Make sure the geometry is set up ok. Coolant is ok. Tyres are in great nick and of high quality. Make sure the engine is warmed up at first, be gentle let it cool down after a burn so the oil dosen't **** the turbo. Do go for a thrash with the tank under a 1/4 full as this can cut fuel to the engine. etc etc etc.
You must treat this car with respect. Drive with respect and look after it with and you will probably be ok. Don't you will probably kill yourself.
Fact - Brigton Seafront last week - Scooby being driven with no respect. scooby torn in half and lots of body bags.
Look after it, drive defensively. If not don't go there not the car for you
Hope this helps
Best wishes

By regular servicing...
Its the wrong car to own if you think your going to dabble with yourself... leave it unserviced and it will start costing you a packet.
BUT
Keep the servicing and it will keep going for little ££££

SIDC faq for good info although it may also make it sound like a gr8 car Servicing must be every 6 months or 7500 miles whichever comes 1st!!! & prices can be from around £100 for the minor uns & er i think it's about £450+ for the larger uns needing cambelt etc
A lot of people change oil twice as often as this so if he's thinkin of doin the opposite then he may spoil the infamously reliable image of the scoob so give him a slap, if he's too tight 2 be doing the services then the scoob aint 4 him the basic running costs like petrol will rape his wallet on their own! But it is a lovely car

Tyres have to swapped in 4 otherwise you can wreck the diffs. Minimum of two services a year otherwise it will break. A clutch will cost him 500-1000, he will get through tyres, brakes and pads at serious rates. About 20-25mpg if hes lucky. Insurance, group 17 minimum upto to group 20+. Tell him get an insurance quote that should sort it .
