Some brainless little **** tried to nick my MY97 wagon last night from outside my house.
Not content with totally trashing both front door locks, they then smashed a rear window setting of the alarm, and then scarpered before I could see them And all this without gaining entry to a car a toddler could enter without breaking anything Even if they had got in they would have had no hope of getting past the Cat 1 and Tracker

This is after an attempted house break in earlier in the year which I assume was to get my keys.

For me this is enough - as soon as my car is repaired it's up for sale to be replaced with something less attractive to ***** (probably a Focus). I'm not giving up entirely - next year we're hoping to move to house with a driveway and garage and then I'll consider scooby ownership again. Until then, this is just too much hassle despite the fun it gives me.

Sensible choice mate. I don't think I would have bought my scoob if I didn't have a garage with a litte 'extra' security.

Sell your scoob by a captain sensible mobile. Build up some brownie points with your insurance company. get your house sorted then by an MY02 STi when they come out next year

Sorry to hear that , on the subject my mate parked up his turbo wagon in Bradford last week and came back to ....... nothing , sad to say he had no tracker and will probably never see it again.

So what we need is our own scooby police force with abilities to use fire arms. Hmmmm maybe I'm going OTT again.

vmax - that actually might work as the crims were obviously so stupid that the flashing LED's on the dash meant nothing to them. A little visible detertent never hurt. Won't help calm my lass down over the housebreaking incident though

Yes and no ... it's a piece of metal that can provide lots of fun.

But.

It's probably a wise thing to do for your peace of mind to get rid of it for a while.

Don't feel however you are giving in to the, um, less honest part of society ... it's like taking a brake from it all, before coming back in full force.

Thanks Theo. I've had other cars broken into before, and my girlfriends has been stolen earlier this year so I'm getting used to it. Just a feature of life in West Yorks unfortunately

Those are such sad pictures...almost wept at the sorry sight. Yes, I do have a wagon. Millband, did you leave your roller blind open? I don't think you can unroll it without opening the boot, but obviously in the pic it's retracted. Pretty obvious the ******* wanted it for criminal activity rather than for your handbag, judging by the effort they went to, mind.

I'm wondering if a Focus is likely to get broken into as well - Fords used to be very popular with crims since they're innocuous. I s'pose their security is better these days, but maybe something slightly more interesting is in order... Lexus IS200 is supposed to have brilliant locks (not that you'd need them, considering the crims couldn't even get past the Scoob's!)

Simon - no handbags in there, that's why I leave the blind open. I don't leave anything worth having in the car overnight as a rule. As far as a replacement goes, I'm looking at something which fits in with the rest of the street I think, makes me less of a target.

like I said the other day I'm sick of hearing about people whose car's have been nicked/damaged. Not saying I'm sick of the postings, sick about the ****** messing with our cars. Yes they are just metal, but we've worked hard to get them and why should some git spoil our fun.

I am very paranoid about having the car broken into/stolen. I have the standard M30 Cat1. A Cat2 transponder immobilizer ( the transponder is not on the keyring so that the keys on their own will not start the car) and a Cat3 steering lock ( Disklock ) on the wheel.

I would like to blank off the locks next. What is the easiest/best way to do this ?

Once you have a garage it will be a huge relief. Out of site out of mind of the mindless!!

When I first got my scoob, I parked it on the drive as the garage was full. Within a week, a neighbour approached me saying he had overheard some young scallies in a pub planning to nick my car. Garage was soon cleared and piece of mind prevailed.

Incredibly sad to hear about all the thefts and damage to cars recently on this bbs. I live in a village which has been plagued with vehicle vandalism, all done by bored youths apparently. My sti sits on the drive (no garage) and I hope that I am one of the lucky ones.. My car has always attracted attention from kids, max power types and petrol heads generally, mostly it’s good humoured though. I’ve had lads in the side of the road (a la rally stages) yelling “boot it!!” , others craning out of the back seats of escort turbos, pointing, but you get used to it!

I’ve just had a K&N fitted and this has really put the cat amongst the pigeons!
The sound of the dump valve now seems to attract attention from youths like a
sort of secret code that all of them understand! There is no such thing as stealth anymore! It’s a car for the playstation generation..
I love the sound and the car IS just awesome to drive now as I’ve had a new clutch too. Queuing in traffic –that’s a different matter!

Thing is, I know this doesn’t help, but as far as my own attitude goes I’ve found that the best way to live with a scoob is to enjoy it for the pure driving pleasure. In most other aspects expensive performance cars are dodgy! Downers include cost, envy factor, the attention they attract, usability in traffic (sudden, juddery clutches) licence threatening gatsos plus earache from the missus about teeth-jarring ride, no electric windows, and the general engine/exhaust noises that we all love so much! Then there’s checking the paint etc. eh?
They never do that on Top Gear!
Best thing I’ve ever done is change my routes to work regularily, go x-country, hammer it and enjoy the trip in, instead of being in half-asleep autopilot mode.
So Ladies & Gentlemen, if you still have a car, start your engines and just DRIVE!

Luckily for me I caught a worthless scumbag in the act of removing my CD Autochanger from under the passengers seat. Also luckily for me he didn't damage the car on entry. Unluckily for him I was twice his size a beat the fu6k out of him.

its bad enough when people break into cars, but its so much worse when they are n't even proficient at it, and cause £££ of collateral damage as well. i sometimes feel that i should take them aside and show them how to remove the lock properly (ie without using a bloody screwdriver ) or how you can take a stereo out of the dashboard without that same all purpose tool of the retard

but no, they will take 10x longer breaking in, cause damage to the door skin around the lock, and then literately tear the stereo out of the dash, and stretch the loom so that has to be replaced as well.

i don't know if its just me, but does their seem to be a growing number of morons running around in this country? anybody who saw 'lifters' on TV earlier this week will know the kind of people i'm refering to. i sometimes wonder if there should come a point in the criminal justice system where we just say 'sorry, you are a waste of skin' and fire them into space or something. IMHO these people are just polluting the gene pool...

Nah,was in salou but didn't hear a thing, after riots/living in Bradford, bombs on holiday is a breeze.....
Just seen the pictures of the Scoob stolen &
crashed the other night, it took out a 30 yard wall and was well damaged, scumbags.

If you do let the scoob go u can still blag
a passenger seat on NM6 with me if you want
