Cool

Is this the best place to put group buys? Or can they have their own forum along with people finding special offers on other motoring websites????

Ooops digressing, back to the main.....

Would anybody be interested with a SPA gauge group buy? I'm in contact with ScoobyMania about this, trying to get details together on price, fitting, etc. and I will post more details as I get them.

To get a group discount we would need 8 or more people, so I'm looking for an initial interest of 8.

Myself and PeterPerfect are already interested, so 6 or more people would be needed to get any discount.

Not sure whether we would all need to get the same gauge though. Myself and Pete are after a combined Turbo Boost and Oil Temp one, to sit in an A pillar pod, rather than getting a three gauge setup for the top mount cubby hole.

Artists impression below (original image taken from ScoobyMania website, if you have issues with me using it, I will remove )

I'm interested, though would depend on the price as the SPA guages aren't the cheapest.

Does look nice in that pillar mount.

Question

What size is the gauge? I've always wanted a oil temp gauge. I have an HKS boost gauge (anyone know what size it is though?) in a G-Reddy A-pillar mounted pod, which is nice, but the only other gauge I've wanted is oil temp, but I don't want dual pod, plus as the car is a MY94 there's no cubby hole for a gauge pod. So the dual spa gauge would be good, and if it's boost and oil temp then that would serve me nicely.

Is the gauge electrical or mechanical, methinks it would be leccy. If one was to go for the boost and oil temp then would the group by be for just the gauge, or would it also include all connections for boost and oil temp (inc oil temp sender and other bits)??? As I have boost gauge could I just use the connections I already have for my existing gauge?

sorry for the ******** questions, but sounds like the killing of many avids with one stone might occur, if I'm lucky!

**edit**
Just looked at the scoobymania and spa sites. now I'm not one to have a go but I can't see a mention anywhere of a turbo boost and *oil* temp gauge, turbo boost and turbo temp gauge yes (unless I've read it wrong ) can someone confirm if you could get a turbo boost and oil temp SPA gauge?

I'm interested. Would it be any gauge I wanted (boost/oil temp) or would it by vote? Would the A pillar mounting be included?

Markus >

Gauges are 52mm (says on the spa website )
I think the gauges are electrical.

The group buy is intended to included <B>everything</B> needed to fit one of these, including a new sump plug with sensor fitted.
Not sure on connectivity with existing gauge tho

Neil &gt; The A pillar pod will be included in the final price. Not sure on how easy it will be to manage different gauges (they <I>are</I> priced slihgtly differently). Initially I'm after Boost/Temp gauges (to keep it simple) but it may be possible to have a mixture. I will need to get in touch with ScoobyMania and see what they say.

If they are just knocking a standard amount off each order then you may be OK. I'll post something when I have more details.

Hanslow,
thanks, all I need to find out is what size guage is in my pod, have a feeling it ain't 52, but 53 (how are they measured? across the face?)

everything included sounds like a plan. but if it includes the pod then not so good, but guess I can just sell that on, or mount different gauge in it at some point.

Hanslow,

Looks good and, like most folk, would be interested depending on price.

Like the idea of a fitting service as I'm colour blind and never have like messing with electrickery and wires

One question - how bright is the backlight? If you can't dim it, it could be really distracting in the corner of your eye at night. Hey - wire it to the Bright button of course! Stupid me

Cheers,
Steve

edited coz I forgot to say: boost/oil temp sounds like the one!

Cool

Thanks for the interest all.

I'm trying to get ScoobyMania to quote me a price with it all fitted and also partially fitted, i.e. the hard bits

I would personally prefer the latter so that a) it saves me some hard earned, and b) makes me feel like I've actually put some of it in myself.

Might take some time getting all the details, I'm doing most of it via emails. I could ring them, or even pop over (they're only a couple of miles away ) but I want to make sure everything agreed on is in writing rather than word of mouth.

As soon as I have a price (or number of them ) I will post it up.

Cheers all

I would be interested. I had being looking at these previously and they looked particulary smart and accurate. Just not sure how much use the boost pressure would be as that fluctuates (sp) quite a bit.

Has anybody got these and likes them?

Willie....most of the WRC cars use a digital boost readout as it can be interpreted faster than an analogue gauge.
The SPA gauge also has warning LEDs which are activated upon crossing programmed thresholds.
Plus there is a peak recall function so you can see how badly your dealer thrashed your car.....i.e. if the max temp was 50 degrees and the max boost was 16psi then they need a good talking to

Funnily enough so do I

Unfortunately, I only want one pod, and want to have two readouts from the one pod.

I was initially looking at getting the 3-gauge setup, but would miss my wonderful top cubby hole thing and what would I do with the extra gauge

Do what I do!

Get defi and SPA gauges.

SPA are very complicated and impressive pieces of kit. Technologically in a different league from other connect and read type gauges.

they have an output which can be connected to relays for controlling other things such as water spray etc. These can be set for example to come in if air temp goes above say 40 degrees and boost is above 1 bar. These points are entirely programmable via a switch which connects into the back of the gauge.

Cool, that's 16 people interested so far.

I've emailed ScoobyMania last night to let them know there were 11 people interested depending on price. Also asked for quote for fitting/partial fitting, and to see if they could sort of quote for a variety of gauges as opposed to just the Boost/Temp one as some people are being awkward....err...want something slightly different

Will get back to you all as soon as I hear anything.....

Edit : Changed to 16 as John sneaked in whilst I was posting and cos I can't spell!

I'll be up for one of these too!
Looks like very good kit.

Think Markus is right though, you either get boost/charge temp, or boost/EGT.
I'd go for the boost/charge temp 'cos the ability to control the intercooler sprayer(or other things) sounds real niceeee.

One thing, I'd just want the gauges and standard fitting kit, 'cos it ain't no scoobydoo that I drive

Cheers

Just checked on the ScoobyMania site. It doesn't say what the temp is on the boost / temp gauge.

If it's EGT, I'd be tempted to go for Oil Temp and Oil Pressure. Let's you know when the car is 'safe' to boot and advanced warning of any nasty loss in oil pressure which I would have thought is more use than a boost gauge.

I've been thinking of getting one of these as well so count me in if the price is right

ChrisB - I believe it's a general temp gauge that can be programmed for anything but as there is talk of supplying a sump screw gauge I think it's safe to say it's oil temp and boost

Chaps, there are two different boost/temp ones.

One is standard Temp that can be used for Oil, the other is EGT.

If you take a look on the second link in the original post, you can see a full list of available SPA gauges and their product codes. Might make things a little easier to quote this code if and when we get the go ahead for a group buy.

Still waiting on a response from SM

No probs with not being a Scooby person Russ, we're here to get a good deal regardless (hopefully )

So have you actually discussed this group buy with Scoobymania at all? I might be interested if it's a goer, but I'm unsure of the merits of digital vs. analogue.
