I read it as all Imprezas are good, some are uglier than others. Mine's a ten pinter.

From The Sun today...

"I never thought I'd say this but: "Don't buy a Subaru Impreza." Wait a few months for the face-lifted version. Hopefully, it will still be as good as ever but it won't look so much like a pigs's backside."

Nearly spat my tea out!!! That man's a god.

I'm with him as well "Don't buy Imprezas" other than the old shape. The less sold now the less second had ones available when I want to get rid of mine.

Plus - if the posts here are right - the reputation of the old shape will be so bad that they'll only be bought by or nicked by criminals.

re lightning

in case anyone was wondering it came in service in 1960 and lasted till 88

it did just over mach2 and could go straight up at 50000 ft per minute a trick which tended to be demonstrated every time the pilots took off as soon as the undercarridge was up

believe me it was one of those things which if you ever saw / heard / felt it you never forgot

if anyones ever been to an airshow and heard/ felt noise from a harier whilst it hovers well the lightning was louder even when it was a mile down the runway

oh happy days

Max thrust 36,000lbs
Mach limit of 2.4
Climb rate of 50,000 fpm
From brake release to 36,000 feet 2.5 minutes
over 88,000 feet reached in unauthorised "energy climbs"
and ugly as **** to boot.
as **** cold war interceptor.

The Lightning - F.1A XM172 - was only in Clarksons garden for a short while, last seen at Booker Airfield nr High Wycombe. The power of the internet and an idle git.

According to the chaps at one BAe office I was at, it still holds records for climbing to altitudes. Not so much a plane, more two huge engines with a seat.

If you want to go see the only Lightnings in the UK allowed to move under their own power - http://www.jetman.dircon.co.uk/brunty/index.html

If you actually want a flight in one (wow!) see here - http://www.thundercity.com/welcome.htm

Lightning rocks. Still probably my favourite plane of all time. Saw them a number of times at air shows back in the 60's

The Lightening was a great concept and fantastic plane.

You can imagine the engineers faces when they got the brief:

"We want a plane that can catch Nuclear Missles."

Astraboy... sorry forgot that bit! lol

I used to live near a BAe site and they had pictures of the plane all over the place! That and the Harrier.

If I remember correctly what one of them said to me...

"They may not be the prettiest planes in the world, but they do their job in style." (I think I toned that down to much...)

I've heard the Harrier on hover at very close range, the hearing recovered after a while. Now I would loved to have heard a Lightening take off and do the 39,000 feet climb!

Lightnings are awesome.

i have some pictures of me at an RAF base in Germany, playing football, using the engine apatures in the fuselage as targets. They were used as decoys near the runway way back then.

Other favourite of the cold war era has to be the Vulcan, i saw the last public diplay by a vulcan at an airshow and i think they decided to sod the regs and give it a good send off, full thrust into a near verticle climb from 50 feet, absolutely awesome!

I'll never forget seeing a Vulcan bomber over Aylesbury when I was a lad. One was based at RAF Halton for a while.

I love seeing shots of the sound barrier being pierced! When I did it I was expecting some sort of explosion... noting not even a shake!
