Scooby Upgrade
#1
I currently have a standard spec '99 RB5 (non-Prodrive) and want to get a few more BHP. I hear that an exhaust and air filter is the quickest way for cheapish money.
Can anyone recommend a good exhaust/air filter combo and how much extra BHP did you get?
I've heard HKS, Nismo and GReddy are good names but expensive but if I get a little bit more power than others and quicker throttle response, then I dont mind paying the little extra.

Now then,
I've just recently upgraded my RB5, I fitted a K&N induction kit for around £75 and a Magnex back box for around £200. I did'nt want to do too much as I've only just purchased the car but I'm suprised how much I've gained by doing so little, the car feels so much more responsive, I've heard the standard exhausts are very restrictive. I'll propably go for the full system and ECU upgrade soon.
Cheers
jezza.

Thanks Jezza, good to hear from someone with the same car.
Do you think the Jap stuff is too expensive and possibly give the same results as the slight cheaper stuff?

Be careful of running different filters with MY99/MY00 year cars as these can cause MAF failures which in turn can lead to engine failures
Performance parts on the other hand can be sought from a few places,

The list is pretty endless, just follow some of the ad banners for parts like exhausts etc.

IMO a pipe is just a pipe.

I'm sure the really expensive Jap stuff is slightly less restrictive than some of the cheaper options. I don't think the price is justified if you are working to some sort of budget. The Jap stuff does loojk the bo11ocks, but i'm not rich.
This is why i got the Magnex dp, ms and bb combination fully fitted for £500. Bargain.
