That is one of the most amusing reads I've had in ages!

Not surprising though, this quaint view of England (and it is always England, the other provinces or UK as a whole don't exist to the Yanks. When I was over there some years ago, I told them I was from Wales, and they asked if that was in England!!!!!) has been peddled to the American public through books and film for years. You only have to look at Dick van Dycke in Mary Poppins, or all the Sherlock Holmes films with Basil Rathbone to realise that.

I think this quote from one of the rednecks at Pikes Peak from the year Walter Rorhl took the outrageous Quattro up it, sums up American attitude and knowledge:-
"Give me a stock Camarro, and a turbocharger, and I'll blow those Krauts of the mountain"

Need I say more?

As most of you know by now I'm North American but - me thinks that's got to be a wind up or an extract from something written in 1952!

I learnt to drive first in Toronto then I came here in 19** and it took me 9 years to work up the courage (yes COURAGE!) to drive in this country....

Wind up - has to be but amusing never the less.

P ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

heheheee.....

You gotta know that stereotyping people, and situations, always end up being wrong!

I laughed my butt off when I read this

One comment I can make sine I am in Canada:- The Canadians/Americans think I am bragging when I tell them the speeds I used to drive with my Cosworth in England. On the back end of this, my firends in England think I am bragging when I tell them about the costs of things over here.

It is almost like men and women... two opposite ends of the pole that seem to like each other, but never seem to fully understand each other

Here we go...

I'm Canadian (Ottawa) and it's true that Full size trucks, SUV's and mini-vans are littering the roads. It's been confirmed that "Truck" (SUV, Trucks, Mini-Vans) sales is now greater than cars.

But this will change in due time. Currently, under the Canadian and American regulations, "trucks" are exempt from the emissions tests that all cars must pass. When they change their format, 80% of trucks will fail.

Also, we pay very cheaply our fuel. Currently, the price for regular here in Ottawa is $0.617 per litre (about .30 pound per litre). As you can see, fuel cost are slowly rising but still low. If we had to pay $1.20 CDN per litre, 8 cylinders would be a thing of the past.

Besides, take a look at an Ford Expedition (SUV). It's about 3.5 times larger than Ford Focus.

Being an American, Yank, neanderthol(sp?), what ever, I will concur with most tof the origional post. The term used here in is "aggresive driving"; I choose to use another term, which is a little too colorful to post in such a sedate board.By the post above it would seem that England is more like where I grew up, Alabama. And before all the snickering and jabs start, yes people there still do ride tractors and horses, the rebel flag still flies high, and I at times do still hide from the Klan. Being that I got married, doh!, and moved to Washington, DC, DOH!, I have been witness to a culture shock when driving. Utter lack of respect, no signals when turning and changing lanes, and the stare. What is the stare? It was said that on motorist was so irate with another driver that he shot him, because he dared to stare back. So now if a seemingly irate driver starts to stare at you, you wonder. The REAL funny thing in comparison is watching shows like the worlds worst drivers, and seeing that most of them are English! But the funny part is that most of the stuff they show is nothing compared to what happens here everyday durring the drive home from work!

So in conclusion (whew!), give me a country road anyday!

....still waiting for the Americanized WRX

Oh, yeah, BTW, I drive a V6 Nissan Maxima.
