Just got back from a business trip to Rome today. Gotta say that the drivers are the most dangerous I've ever experienced. In a taxi was sitting at 180km/h about 1 car length behind a van, in the fast lane at night. It was like being towed on fastforward!!!
At crossroads there were no white lines and it was a free for fall - just shunt the nose forward till you have to be let it. And talk about impatient, it takes literally seconds for them all to be on the horn at someone!!
I thought our driving standards were poor, but these mad tallies take the biscuit. No wonder they come to britain and get cautioned for numerous offences.
If you are anywhere near Rome, I'd think twice about hiring a car - the taxis rip you off (b@stards), and their public transport system is hit and miss.
Mind you - top totty when sitting at the Spanish Steps. To quote one italian guy, you get drunk on beautiful women. And believe me they are fantastic, everyone literally a stunner.
Nowt to do with driving, but a great visual relaxation technique (heh-heh!).
Oh, and another thing - they love Fiat Puntos and cinquecento's - I saw zillions of the little bashed blighters everywhere. crikey even saw 4 Uno Turbos with no rust - honest!!

no "showers and sunny spells"= no rust.....
BTW if you manage to drive like them in the traffic you will discover you enhanced your driving skills.
To quote Niki Lauda's words: " What I admire of Italians is their ability to drive in the traffic. If you are able to go around Rome as they do then you are able to drive in all other cities in the world[..].

I spent 6 months working in Bari a while back and it's certainly an eye opener.
They're fukcing mental! Red lights mean nothing, as do zebra crossings. I saw a guy in a fukced Alfa smash into the back of another heap and neither driver bothered to do anything - they both just drove off as if nothing had happened!
Nice eye candy too!

This sounds like Turkey, went on holiday there last year and got picked up from the airport in the fastest coach ever,or at least thats what the driver must of thought. Also didnt seem to be any highway code, and zebra crossings were only markers in the road for cars etc to speed up!!!...... LOL
