how does a modded STi5/6 (300bhp, coilovers etc) compare to an evo5/6, modded or otherwise?

I had a modded P1....

I now have a modded Evo 5....

Answer your question?

The scooby was quick, but the Evo is even faster!. I dont use the car every day so economy is not an issue neither is the hard ride.

But I am tempted by a modded R34 skyline now, which I feel is the next level again.

C, can you be more specific? what bhp were both cars?

i know the sti's and evo's have very similar weights and gearing so if they both have say 300 break, how can one feel faster than the other?

I'm a mess no so this may not make sense...

Both were tunning approc 320bhp but the evo had shorter gearing so was quicker...

I prefer the way th e evo drives becuase its a lot mroe intense than the #the swxcooby.

**** me ive drunk too much.

buy the ervo you know it makes sense!

lol

I've been out in a lot of modded Scoobies and have only been out in one modded Evo. Without a doubt the Evo absolutely pi$$es on all the scoobs with the equivalent mods mainly in the handling area but also on power. Unless you get a type RA, all scoobs mainly understeer or you just can't enter a corner nearly as quick let alone exit it!!!

How can the Evo be good? Look all their drivers are forced to get pi55ed to forget how crap their car is and how much its costing them

LOL unbiased views

Now you have spent a fortune in changing from an Impreza to an EVO do you think you have done the right thing ?. I doubt one EVO owner will say NO even if they have made the wrong decision and think YES because it will make them look stupid .

DEFEND THEM, DEFEND THEM LOL

The two (classic STI5/6 and EVO5/6) are so similar in standard setup unless you really start tunning heavily there aint much difference . Just people want diffeent toys to play with and "think" they must be better .

I have a modified evo 7 - makes about 310bhp. I had a uk impreza turbo before that with full exhaust. Up to 60mph theres nothing in it - above 60mph evo is considerably quicker but it does make about another 100bhp! handling wise the 7 is sharper - but I hate the ridicoulsy small fuel tank and it costs a fortune to run - some days I regret getting rid of the scooby.

Snap! - I find I get more ladies attention as mines yellow

But I do miss that flat four sound. The evo sounds like a motorbike with a Blitz exhaust on it!

Why would it make them look stupid? If that were the case wouldnt they just sell the Evo and get another scooby? I mean lets face it, they could sell the Evo, get a scoob have lots of money left over to give it the mods it soo obviously needs and go on holiday for a few weeks.

the sti5 weighs 1235kg and the evo6 weighs 1280kg. lets assume they have both been tuned to 300bhp. the power to weight ratios would be 240bhp/ton for the scoob and 234bhp/ton for the evo.

consider the gearing and final drive.

sti5,

3.17:1
1.89:1
1.30:1
0.97:1
0.74:1

final 4.44:1

evo6,

2.79:1
1.95:1
1.40:1
1.03:1
0.76:1

final 4.529:1

there is very little difference here, in fact the sti5 comes out on top.

if they both have a decent coilover kit with the same poundage springs, same geometry setup, solid droplinks, uprated ARB's, same size wheels, etc etc how can one possibly be more extreme than the other?

This would be from the EVO owners :

"You sold an EVO to buy another scoob are you mad" kind of quote. I am sure if I posted that I had an EVO and sold to buy a scoob on the MLR forum I would be flamed grilled.

How many EVO owners are ex-scoob owners and they all have a story to tell how bad there are dont they crypt . Actaully Crypt did say to me how he enjoyed his scoob ownership just problem wiuth pushing the envelope a bit. Having said liek scoobynet the MLR is littered with problems due to over tunning and hard running.

The old quote is the best "drive them like a race car then fix them like a race car"

my mate had a sti5 modded fecking quick he now owns an evo5 also fecking quick if not quicker the problem is the sti never cost him a penny to maintain the evo is costing him a furtune his active yaw pump has now gone 2200 quid new hes ringing around everywhere trying to find a second hand one so at the end of the day do you want to pay out shedloads of cash just to keep a evo on the road

If Evos cost a fortune to maintain I wouldnt own one.

Maybe your friend got one that had not been looked after (AYC not serviced).

Stu

Keep the Scoob - I've driven plenty of Evo's

The seating position is not quite as good, the interior is worse, you have to fill them up every 10 minutes, they are not as realiable

to get 'real' power (i'm talking 400bhp + (yes it is possible on a 2 litre Scoob!) you have to spend similar money)

They look like a shed on wheels

Please dont swap over to an Evo - much better to swap over to a Skyline - better logical step - a modded R34.......

I'll give you a drive in a 400bhp Scoob, running at 1.8 bar on a Hybrid turbo (amongst £20k of other engine mods) and see what you think!

However, saying that, by the same argument I would not actually swap from an Evo to a Scoob - simply no point - very similar engines - a bit more torque and different gearing - so what..

Steve
ps - you still in Manchester?

steve, yes i am. visit anytime and show us what you've done to that mota. i wouldn't have an evo 'cos they look like they just crashed through halfords. i agree with the skyline bit or perhaps a new M3.

crypt, i understand the torque figures are very similar as well.

i seriously dont think an evo6 with similar power and suspension mods is gonna be any better than my scoob. its defies physics.

Both are excellent cars - and for the money are great!!!....

Stu - I'll be around at some point in the future - you on the same mobile? - mines a slow car- honest - I'll come in the Scoob this time!! 0-100 should be good for just over 9 seconds - yeah very slow - I do apologise..

Course - you better not be recovering from a **** up this time - dont want people being sick in the car... hahaha......

Steve

ps - you married yet?
