Flat 6?
#1
Apologies to all if this is in the wrong forum, but:
why don't Subaru put the flat 6 turbo unit from the Legacy into an Impreza? Surely it'd have more power/torque, and, if tuned, would even be a Cossie killer (, or an Evo slayer.
If there's a daft reason, I've got me flame suit on.................:

why not??? the xt origianlly came out with a 4cyl turbo and later, they fitted under the bonnet without any mods the 6cyl. the just added two pistons-cylinders of the same capacity in the engine, the 4 cyl was 1.8, the 6cyl was 2.7 .

now if i just had enough money...
wish I'd kept the sport now, instead of part exing it, DAMN!
Shall we round up as many people on scoobynet as possible and lump together as much cash as we can and build a scoobynet users 6-cylinder twin-turbo Impreza.
If the football fans can do it with AFC Wimbledon then so can we with the impreza ROCK N ROLL!

I have a friend who works at a Subaru dealer, and apparently most dealers have been asking this question since the Outback H6 was introduced 2 years ago, in order that they can satisfy the people who don't want a big six cylinder front driver, or a BMW. They could also take a lot of custom from the X type too. But apparently IM aren't interested in putting the question to Japan.
Yes the engine would fit because that end of the Outback is basically the same as the Impreza, which is basically the same as my 93 Legacy (Hmmm, there's a thought), but I'm not sure whether they would twin turbo it over here.
All WRC cars are sub 2000cc, 4 cylinders and turbocharged in accordance with the regulations agreed by the manufacturers and the FIA in 1997, this is one of the reasons MGRover are competing in the Super 1600 class, they don't have a 2 litre 4 cylinder engine in their range.

I have a acqauintance who is a director at I.M., and they have been asking for a none Outback 6 cylinder, and for a 6 cylinder with a manual gearbox for the Legacy since the launch of H6, and its Japan that is showing no interest!!, so it goes top show I.M. do get it right sometimes.

The flat 6 is available in Japan with the normal Legacy estate & saloon bodystyles, & there's also a Legacy Blitzen with the said engine.
As for turbocharging the engine, one of the reasons they may not do it is heat. If u look at the twin-turbo flat 4, u'll find that it has a rather complex turbo arrangement, in order to package the whole thing into the engine bay. They may not have room to do the same thing for the 6.
Think about it, if there were no problems, then the current Legacy would have at least a 2.5 twin turbo, rather than the 2.0.

Well, first of all they can't yet, coz there is no turbo 6.
There's no 250hp 6 either...at least not an EZ30 from the factory.
But there is a 270ps "B6" from Tommy Kaira Still only an auto tho...
