I'm about to get one of these aswell. As regards fees, I think I remember reading on one site that it is free for the first year to download the camera position and then £30 PA after that - not bad really.

one question
if i fit a geodesy inside the space previously occupied by the cup holder just above my heater controls, is the GPS signal still pick upable from there or do I need the remote aerial. If so, how big and unsightly is it?

Given that there is due to be an increase of speed cameras of almost three times the ammount that exist at the moment, and like Adam says you have the roadwork cameras that just crop up....

This would be the best thing you bought since you bought your erm.....scoob!

Geodesy really does work, it gives ample warning, the bleeps are very loud (user changeable) and the lights very bright no matter what time of day.

Essential Purchase! and quiet a nifty bit of kit.

I paid £330 for mine through the Evo readers group buy. No other fees for the first year, then I think £30 is the yearly cost.

Fit's nicely into the odds and sods try in the Scooby, although it needs a little blue-tack or something to stop it sliding on those quick corners

When it's in action but no warnings it's not that noticable. As soon as the red lights come on, I notice it very quickly.

Any other info gratefully received,

Yes they work !

No they do not detect ANYTHING ! they are GPS based and hold a database of fixed camera locations ! They cannot detect radar or laser so handheld stuff will not show !

chuck, I think it comes with a cradle which plugs into the phone lines and automatically downloads, when you can be bothered.

Once a week migth be enough to account for road works etc.

If you are planning on buying one, call me first.

Thumbs up

You get a little cradle supplied with the unit. You plug it into a standard phone line and insert the Geodesy. It then downloads the latest database and uploads any new camera positions you have marked (you have to then ring to confirm the new camera to get your £50).

The master DB is updated once a day and it's recommended you do an update once a week.

I had mine with me on Saturday during our little run. Picked up the three cameras we saw.

I wouldn't recommend it if your driving is always in one area (ie you know the camera positions) - a radar detector would probably be a better choice.

Thanks for the replys guys.
Does anyone know of a speed camera/radar detector worth buying ??
I fear the mobile vans and plod with radar more than cameras, but one that detects all would be ideal,
Cheers,
Andy

Tested the Geodude against my Bel Europa.
Personally think the Geo is better where Gatso's [I hate 'em] are concerned.
No beeping when I go past Sainsbury's or the local BP station.
You get a very early warning with the Geo as well. But you don't know which way the gatso is facing, only that its there.
Laser detectors are worthless, by the time you've picked up the warning, you've already been caught

But at least you can remove the illegally used detector before you get pulled

Question!

how much memory to these little guys have?

with all the extra cameras about to be installed, is the box not going to have enough space to store them all?

All rader/laser detectors and Geodesys units are legal at the moment.
The government are struggling to make the radar detectors illegal due to the current regulations.
I doubt they will be able to ban Geo units

The only things that are illegal(although not 100%) are the jammers.

Robski,

They are £380 one off payment and you install them yourself, either hard wired or via a lead to the *** lighter socket in the car. The kit includes the GPS unit, modem and all the fixing kits. No monthly fees

There is a link from a few days ago in General for Networx who will sell them for £320 to scoobynet members.
