Hi all

Just thought I'd give you an opportunity to laugh at me!!

Came off a roundabout, booted it in second, showing off to a group of girlies, revved (sp?) to about 6K (red line at 7500, before you comment) and a lovely big pop sound followed by the glorious rasping throaty exhaust note of a 6000 horse power dragster!!!

I then slowed down to the tune of a crackling and popping group a impreza!!

Bugger!

Lotus Assistance arrived in 14 minutes from my call!!!! and have trailered it away to the dealer.

Oh well.... it was nice while it was working!

Regards

Simon

Oh the joys of owning a Lotus eh Si....

Don't worry your not alone...was in a Lotus dealership the other day.....and got a guided tour of all the machines in for repair...

Nice Esprit in with majority of nearside suspension ripped out due to driver "booting it in 2nd" out of a corner and and experiencing the oh****oh****oh**** moment....resulting in him bouncing it accross the kerb....

Also plenty of Elises in with body damage...they don't seem to like the greasy road conditions of the moment (

Still when its up and running to full strength you'll remember why you got it and forget the naff reliability

laters

Wow... no Pi$$ takes yet????

The car was fully warmed up (been driving for about an hour).

All under warantee (sp?) anyway so no real probs.

I was about 2 mins from home so I carried on, put my foot down to listen to the turbo and it still spun up OK, so I'm not really worried. Bit of a pain in proverbial though.

Still waht did I expect?

Cheers

Hehe.
"You wanna watch Lotus' mate, they're not very reliable ya know!"

(I know where there's a reasonable second hand Impreza for sale, which funnily enough is at a Lotus dealer)

Mike.

Cool

Only problem is that the impreza in question has a rust spot under the fuel filler, got to be a shed then. ha ha

Simon,
Hope everything works out okay with the car. In the meantime, I forgot to mention the fact of what happens whem you get too much wheelspin and the car tramps. It can pop the fuel cut-off switch which is a real bitch to find (even if you know where to look, you can't see it and have to feel it to find it!). I'll have to show you where it is at Donno, wouldn't want you to be left stranded anywhere because of a silly little thing like that (has happended to me!).
Regards
Mike

Well my Word!!!!

You're not going to believe this...

I've just got the car back!!!!

Lotus Assistance took it round to a local welder who has done a good but temporary repair on it to last me until my next service (which is Friday) and brought it straight back to me!!! WOW!

I know they're trouble, but service like that gives you that warm feeling that you made the right decision.

ner ner ne ner ner!!!!

Mike Tuckwood (and SiDB),

I'd watch used Imprezas with rust near the petrol filler, they almost always have engine oil issues too!

Si, bad luck, but at least you have it back already! Just think to yourself, at least I didn't buy a TVR!

Simon,

"Lotus Assistance arrived in 14 minutes from my call!!!!"

Well they were obviously not in a Lotus

14 minutes to arrive to fix a car you have only had for 18 days!

With this sort of breakdown per day rate you can expect to break down approximately 20 times a year!

Oh it's a shame the chat server isn't running !!

Only joking!

Sorry to hear about the breakdown.

Wink

I was reading this thread to a guy at work who use to have an Esprit SE turbo. I read the first post to him and his instant response was exhaust problem. He thought it might be the powervalve thingy ( my words not his). He didnt like the crack about TVR's , hes a TVR nut as well .

Hope it okay now Simon and by the way were the girlies imprezzad (sp? )

Cheers

I'll laugh when the exhaust manifold goes next!!! Cos I dont think that's covered under the warranty!!

You should have just taken the rest of the pipe off and pretended you were driving a Lotus kit car with a Sherman tank engine

Mike - HA - I can find and even see my fuel cut off switch - so ner

evenin all!

Sorry forgot to mention what the problem was....

Apparantly, a bracket holding part of the exhaust broke at some point and the vibrations have been gradually weakening a join which eventually broke....

Could have happened where there weren't onlookers though!!!

Cheers for the kind words and surprising lack of pi$$ taking (except for a couple - you have been noted!!! )

cheers
