Privilege renewal
#1
Well, it has been a year of 22B ownership, and last year I thought I had been lucky that it was cheaper to insure this car than my previous wrx.
I was concerned that there was some mistake but there is no doubt as to which car is on the policy.
Last year i had the option of paying £1200 or £1400 with pnc. I was chuffed with that price, so did not comaplain.
Well this month was renewal time, and I have been packing myself for months due to all this talk about increased premiums etc. So with a gulp, I rang privilege to find out the bad news.
Worse case scenario I would deal with was 2k. But it could easily be worse, having rung around other people.
The final figure......£1182 with protected no claims. My insurance has gone down!!!!!! wooooo hooooooooo. As it should do with a year of no incidents.
To improve things even more, even though privilege are now under written by direct line, track day cover remains in tact on the policy!
has anyone elses renewal actually been cheaper?

You lucky @@@£$"£$£, Man Oh Man, my driving must be bad or I live in a ruthless area.
So Adam, who is your inside contact in Privilege...promise I won't tell anyone else
Answer to your question...nope....£1700 with Privilege for a slightly moded UK turbo. Insurance due soon......an anticipation I'm not looking forward too.

I know - from previous threads. It makes it worse.
Just went onto Privilege online. £1347 - so there is light at the end of the tunnel after all........all I need now is for it to stay at that price for a little while longer.
rr
(24, 3yrs no claims due to having company cars, Normal SP50 speeding fine but with the added bonus of being 5pts - Judge was in a mood as I didn't show up to court. I did tell I wouldn't attend )
Forgot to say, congratulations (mumble mumble)

Modded 94 WRX, full ncb, garaged etc etc down £50 to £700 but this is also now protected.
With Adrian Flux. Was pretty pleased although having the car garaged made no difference! Unbelievable!

Bucking Fastards put mine up from £850 to £1150 for my R34 Skyline despite never having claimed in 12 years of driving AND suffered the inevitable 30th birthday this year (with grey hairs to prove it).

Privilege/UK Insurance has put up ours (35yrs & 39yrs full no claims, no points etc) from £700 to £950. Also now want another £85 for the wheels & back box upgrade
The above is for a P1, so looking at some of the other posts I have been done like a kipper.........

Markus... I'm 27 no claims 4 years and clean license, and I'm paying £650 with Flux for 98 UK turbo wagon, cat 1 and Navtrak (awaiting discount for this as I just told them today), STi back box and ITG filter declared on the policy. Car is garaged.
Although that was last year's price, my moment of truth comes up next month...
Simon (shouldn't this be in insurance?)

What Adam is NOT telling you is that some of his friends (Pat, TimW, BlowDog, Moray, Firefox, R19Ket, and myself) wrote to Privilege to inform them that the car itself will never get driven PROPERLY by the owner, NOT EVEN ON TRACK.
This is how such young people can own such powerful cars.

Just changed insurers to Priveledge. Mines gone down from £1200.00 to £850.00 How chuffed am I?? Needless to say, last year I was severely stitched up Be advised: avoid a company from Blackburn called "C*t**r**ls.
Shaun.
P.S. on a down note, priveledge told me they would no longer cover track days

Damn!
29 yrs old, 9 yrs no claims, never had an accident. Only 3 points since March 1998
Could only get a quote from A Plan (with Barclays matching)- and if I had been a new customer to A Plan even they would not have quoted me! (due to the fact that I have engine conversion mods - and an after market turbo is deemed to be an engine conversion!)
My insurance went down from £1400 to £1233 - but that unprotected!
So well done Adam!!
(oh... did I mention I had a few bans in 1997/1998 - atleast they should be discounted for next year - so I'm hoping for insurance well below £1k next time round)
My most horrifying increase was a 10% loading for uprated brakes - very annoying

Dark (Mark)
Thanks for the word of warning.
I rang privilege to confirm this and have found out that since I am renewing with Privilege for tbe second time, my policy is of the old style which did cover track days. As I am an existing customer with an existing policy that I am renewing, they will still honour the terms of the old style policy, meaning that below the age of 25 I am still allowed to drive any vehicle thrid party.
Apparently new customers to privilege do not get this benefit, as they fall under the terms of the new policy whereas everything from mine stays in tact!
Well done privilege.
I have found out that my price comes down to the fact that I am getting an extra 10% reduction from tracker and 10% from a BSM masterdrive course took two two years a go which cost me two hours of my time and £38.
his means my total discount is max no claims of 60 or 70% plus another 20% which means my worse case scenario before discount was a policy price of £11,870!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (although this includes the cost of pnc, which would not be multiplied up)
thank god for no claims protection! Imagine where I would be if something went wrong.

Also note, to bring your insurance down a fair amount, is to increase your excess. My excess is £1000. Risky I know, however I have put away that amount over the years with the money I have saved on insurance !! I pay £600 for my STI V (£1100 with £250 excess - Tesco's). (35, full NCD, clean license).

Just changed insurance on my wifes Mitsubishi to Tesco as Privilege renewal was £300 more than them.
Renewal on the Scooby will be interesting - if I change to Tesco I wont keep my trackday cover and will need to buy a tracker type device - may stay with Priv provided they keep my policy on the old terms.

Anybody know the date when Privilege changed underwriters ? I've been with them a little while (3 years) and I want to know if it's worth switching to somebody else as I want to include track day cover and if I don't fall into the old policy I might as well switch. Is there a yearly track cover policy available from anybody for a reasonable rate ?
(sorry I know this probably ought to be in the insurance forum !)

I thought Privaledge was always part of direct line, just their high performance/higer risk type cars/drivers.
All I suspect has happened is that for business reasons they have decided to standardise on 1 product rather than 2.
This may be as simple as to be able to run on oen system, or may be that they have noticed that having 2 types of policy is costing them a lot of money.
