Help with Reg Question.......

Hi All,
I wanted to put a personalized Reg on my V6 so decided to call the DVLA today with the one i had in mind.
Thing is i live in NI. They told me that their Reg's can only go on cars that are registered in Mainland U.K. This sucks....
Is there any way around this ??

Thought of that M8, trouble is that i dont actually have a contact in the U.K as i have moved to NI from the Republic.
Is it possible for someone to purchase the Reg on a retention type basis and then sell it to someone else.
