I use Competition Car Insurance never had any problems with them. My usual cover is £80 for £5000 worth over cover with a £700 excess.

£5000 doesn't seem like very much... if you get T boned and the car is a write off you only end up with £4,300 to get another car.

£30k worth of cover costs £350 with a £7000 excess. I could not afford to pay the excess if I wrote the car off! I don't drive my car over my own limits when on track, it is allways in the back of my mind that if I have a bad smash then I am f**ked big style. I am now looking into a cheaper car dedicated for trackdays it is too much of a risk taking a £20K+ car on track.

Er doesnt your insurance cover you - I know they kick up a fuss but are'nt you legally covered in the event of an accident - as putting it on the track, is not the same as racing/time-trialling, etc as its essentially just a private road?

I've been on the track before with the knowledge that my insurance certificate covered me - confirmed with a solicitor friend that I would win eventually if they kicked up a fuss... in the event of an accident...

Si, that is the conclusion that I am coming to. I think you need to be pretty brave or rich to risk a newish car on track, even aside from the warranty stuff. The trouble is that you might be driving ok but if someone else loses it there's no guarantee that you're gonna be able to get out the way. I want to have a go on track but I think for the mo I will try something like Don Palmer, where there is a bit more control over who is doing what.

Charlie,

At my last trackday someone in a STI7 UK undertook me into a chicane at Oulton Park, I was on the racing line he was not but still he decided to ignore all the briefings. He was fortunate that I saw him, if I had not I would of turned in on the racing line and we would of both been in a tire wall. I know it has been said before but this type of driving has now put me off trackdays in my Scoob. I would prefer to drive something like a stripped out Pug or MKI Golf which could be good fun on-track for little money.

Steve,

I am with Privilege and when I asked them they said that any use on-track will invalidate my insurance whilst on-track. I know someone who uses Norwich and they are ok with track use for a small addition to the premuimn.

If you speak with Rum* @ Schofields Insurance in Leeds next time your policy is due he can offer you trackday insurance up to £30k cover for a mere £75 per time with a £1k excess

I should know

Si..... I am now the proud owner of a dedicated track monster.... it's not an open top...it's 500kgs with 210bhp and rear wheel drive... 1st outing at Oulton next Wednesday.... you should come

Sillysi, I suspect only you would have been in the wall.

the inside is generally the safest place to be, and the best way to overtake if racing but I appreciate that track days are not races.

At Castle Coombe you are instricted to overtake on the inside, which to makes more sense anyway.

Chris,

What have you done now? Is it next Wednesday the 18th as I might come down?

Pavlo,

I suspect it would of been just me in the tire wall, but on his next lap round he would find two large lads waiting for him with said tires in hands

P.S The last bit was a joke before anyone tells me how dangerous it would be to throw tires onto a track.
