Had Phil & Len from Subaru4You do a 45K service on my UK MY97 Turbo yesterday (Yep a Sunday).

Here's what my local subaru dealer (Tileys Bristol) wanted to do
45K service - approx £450
Front discs - approx £100 each

Then as a sepearate job... (as they're leaking - honest)
Cam oil seals, Crank oil seal - £200

Then as another sepearate job... (and these are leaking badly too - honest)
Cam cover seals - £250

Grand Total £1100

Now... Why would Tileys want to do a 45K service (which includes cam belt) at a different time to doing the crank seal and cam seals, then do the cam cover seals at a different time again? Sounds to me like they wanted labour for taking the same bits off again to gain access to the job!

Here's what I've had done
45K service, crank seal, front discs - £530'ish all-in

The cam seals weren't leaking, the cam covers I'm told were only weaping very slightly and weren't worth changing. What really surprised me was that Tileys didn't metion that the oil could be comming an inspection plate between the gear box and engine. I wonder if they were going to wait then suggest that after doing the other £450 worth of work...

In short, I'd recommend Subaru4You to anyone in the Reading area. I travelled the 70miles up from Bristol, spent a day shopping in reading drove back and still saved a packet.

Anyone else had experience of Subaru4You?

cheers

Jamie...

My car is going into them this evening for a 45k Service with Cambelt change.

Have seen many good reports about these guys in the past which is why I booked the car in with them and as a bonus I live in Reading.

These guy's are good as they have both worked for Subaru, one still does and the other has the knowledge on the Mitsu..EVO range. You will get a receipt and the book stamped which is great.

You mention that Len is a good driver, I guess you refer to his instance in the 22B over the train track at the back of Pangbourne. If not what????????

Nothing but praise for them. They did a really top service job on my first scoob with other bits added too. Good price, good result. What more can I say?

Cheers,

Nick

VAT registration is where it is at. As a lot, if not all warranty companys insist on this when having a car serviced, otherwise you will breach the terms and conditions of the policy.

sounds a bit crap really, as you only "Have" to be VAT registered if your turnover is more than £20k a year or something (from memory)..

Yeah if your turnover is more than £x per year then you have to be VAT registered. However you can volunteer be VAT registered before this £x limit is met.

cheers

They did my second annual service - 30K? Can't remember. And changed the disks and pads at the same time. No complaints, considerably cheaper than a dealer, and a 'specialist' stamp in the book. I might think differently if the car was still under Subaru warranty, but as it's a Euro import, with only a one year warranty, getting it done outside the dealer network didn't worry me.
