Had my MY99 serviced last month. I asked them to have a look at the car as it is running rough on idle and noticed thats it's a bit sluggish. Came back and said that Select Monitor could'nt find anything but they thought it was the "Air Flow Meter". Said it would cost £100 to replace. Asked if it was going to damage the engine and they said "no". So left it as it is as I had run out of money.

I've got it booked in for early Oct but am worried that I could be causing damage and have noticed that performance worsened and is really thirsty for fuel.

Are they talking about the MAF sensor and should I get it in ASAP?

When my MAF sensor went (under full throttle) it scared the life out of me. However, my dealer informed me that it would'nt damage the car, it just went into 'safe mode'.

I was about 80 mile from home when it happened, but providing I accelerated slowly, the car behaved normally. Although the idle speed was all over the place, and kept sounding as if it was about to stall.

I had an My01 WRX, and Falkland Motorsport cleaned the air flow meter. It felt less sluggish after that. Might be worth a try.
