A few names to note (in fastest lap time order) are-

Martin Hadland in his Cossie (especially as his car has only a near std 330bhp engine in his car at the moment). 2min 38sec and 4th fastest overall.
Sean Bicknell in another Cossie (which is obscenely powerful, 550+bhp, but was running probably under 400bhp due to having to turn boost right down to get past the noise regs).
Tiff Needell (yes, him) in a Porsche GT2.
Dan Lewis (Renton, Redline mag editor) in 400bhp Cossie.
Lee Manning in the above mentioned Cossie (its his).
Stef Reader (sure you know him) in his Scooby. 2min 53secs
And 2 more scoobies much lower down....

Stefs a superb driver, and his cars very well modified isnt it?

So many people slate cossies like theres no tomorrow on here (nigh on every post that has the word Cossie in it turns in to a 5page flame-a-thon), which is rather childish (esp the claims of "slow" and "unreliable" as pound for pound a modified cossie is faster and more reliable than a scoob), how on earth did a lowly 330bhp cossie beat Stefs best time by 15seconds??? Not to mention "driving god" Spliff Needle in a Porsche GT2...

Best not mention the three FRONT wheel drive golfs that posted blistering times destroying all manner of supercars too.

Just food for thought like (tho no doubt the no nothing die hards are sparking up their flamers... lol)

Cheers

Cool

Would you not also be better posting this in the Other Marques forum or are you just out to get inflammatory posts as I suspect you are trying to?

Okay, you made me feel guilty now, so don't take my comment to heart

Hey, I could have been putting For Fred's Sake

I know what you mean though. A lot of people here will slate cossies and most have never been in one!!!
there again, you have to look at the whole picture on this.

There will be people like myself who have an interest in most performance cars and admire them, I will jokingly banter about them,
There are others who are REALLY into their cars and can objectionally post up their views having driven most types.
There will be the ones who have an opinion but who won't admit to having been in one.
There are others who are very blinkered and will believe that the Subaru is the be all and end all of performance cars.

This is Subaru BBS after all and no matter how many times you try to prove otherwise, the Subaru will rule on this site

Michelle

Edited because alcohol and serious posts clash badly

""There are others who are very blinkered and will believe that the Subaru is the be all and end all of performance cars""

Yup, these are the people who chafe my buttocks!

I mean, no car any of us can afford to own is the best performance car you can get, and scoobies, cossies, EVOs, etc etc etc are so closely matched you cannot say one is better than the other.

Theres no way id go on here goin "na na nana naaaaaa, scoobies are rubbish, cossies kick @ss" because its just not true, both cars are bloody good at what they do, and too close to categoricly say ones better. I just wish people would give credit where credits due, instead of slating things for no reason.

Obviously this is a Scooby BB and peoples gonna prefer scoobies, ive got no problem with that, and would never try to change peoples minds and tell people what they allowed to think (Ill leave that to the Mods on the RS BB, lol! Joke!- before Redkop lamps me...).

Im certainly no Cossie die hard, i have a 420bhp one and i love it, but after seing them destroy everything Ten of the best, its Skylines i REALLY love (and i got a soon to be 250odd bhp R5GTT race car, and a lovely r reg mondeo rep mobile, but lets not go there, eh? )

Cheers

I thought the porsche was supposed to be untoucahble super weapon pretty poor performance really given its high price.Funny when golf Gti's and escorts beat em. Show's em for what they really are.
Have you ever had the pleasure of seeing how quick a Porsche GT looks at the hands of McClaren F1 or Lister . Sorry I forgot the McClaren is a dinosaur too its all early ninties technology.
The Evo's and scoobies are twenty seconds behind that is light years ten percent. It only goes to prove which cars handle and which ones don't.

surely we can all have a look at a nicely done up car regardless of make and say "Mmmm, nice". i love cossies, wanted one for ages, also love scoobs, wanted one of those too, I just happened to come across someone selling a black scoob and so bought it. It could of easily been a cossie. I've owned 2 escorts in the past, nothing majoy though, my last one was a 1.6si which i had a few bits and pieces done to it and i loved it to bits, sold it to a friend who also loves it to bits and i miss it sometimes. It certainly wasn't fast, but i liked it. Its always down to that, sod what performs better. My g/f's brother is a beetle fan, hardly a performance car but lovely all the same. So, keep the comments nice, no "cossiea re sh*te" or "scoobs are sh*te"...they are ALL lovely motors.

Paul

Cant stop laughing at what a load of cack you talk co55ie, cossie better handling than 996gt2 is laughable

p.s. i think you'll find production car track record at the 'ring still belongs to a Porsche 996 gt3, if they are so useless why hasnt a sierra cosworth beaten that????

double edit to say:
1. i dont have anything against cossies, just people talking complete cack

2. if porsches look so useless at hands of mclaren etc, try looking at results from Le Mans & fia gt world championships
e.g 1998 Roock porsche GT2 2nd fia gt, 3rd Le Mans, 1st daytona 24 hours

Then explain why a modded GT2 driven by a proffesional racing driver performed so poorly on this particular occasion it was beaten fair and square by a 330 escort.
You are the one talking ****e mate. Just face it.
Exactlty right UXG the Porsche is no weapon it is an average performance car they look like they are going backwards in comparison to the GT1 cars.

Mich, no, not trying to start a row at all, no, as thas why its soo hard to post on here as EVERYTHING gets turned into a fight!
I posted on this board as I was wondering peoples thoughts on it, as track days are what a great deal of Scooby owners do often, and track handling etc is what scoobs are famed for.

All the cossie hating posts are always on this board and allowed to stay, and this certainly isnt hating any car, its kind of a "give other marques a chance" post and also an interesting compareson (sp?), esp with the FWD golfs beating all kinds of mad supercars!

I HONESTLY hope this post stays sensible and dont turn into usual hate war (tho u started swearing str8 away! naughty girl your ment to be setting a good example! lol).

Cheers

Weren't they just AWESOME!!!

The R33 and R34 lining up together and taking off for a run. A petrol heads DREAM!!! the noise and speeed!!! Wow

Attitudes on here that are "my car is better than yours nah, nah" to express your term.....<chafe my buttocks> too

At the end of the day, does it really matter to you? I love Imprezas, I also love Evo's and Cossies (and Vipers, oh and Skylines - okay, so the list is endless ), I just wish I could have one of each!!!

I have respect for all performance car enthusiasts and am very happy to be part of the crowd

Was tiff, really trying in the GT2, was it working properly?

I think a car with 457bhp as standard and an ex Grand Prix driver in, would beat most on his day!

Sorry this doesn't prove anything as far as I'm concerned, just shows you guys can drive!! Look at the RS4's times FFS, it did worse than cars that it would totally destroy in the straights. In the right hands the RS4 and the porka's would have been far higher up. I bet the top cossie boy could have got the best lap in almost any of the cars there

I think the point being a scoob handles pretty well out of the box and with a few cheap mods (uprated springs, geometry, bumpsteer) they can be made very good, power costs though. Cossie can have good power for cheap money but it costs to get them to handle.

Shows how quick Sutcliffe is - I know the R500 is a serious beast, but that is a quick, quick time - only 3s off the Radical.
Some of the racing drivers weren't all that impressive - notably Tiff! Chris Harris (Autocar road test ed.) took 3s off Robbie Kerr, and 8s out of JP himself, all in Exiges!

Respect to Martin - that is an excellent time

The time of that Golf was also awesome for what it would appear its capabilities on paper

The only thing I would point out was that there was only 1 timed lap to put your best in - obviously worked for Martin - and the rest of the time was practice/open session. That might explain some of the disparities as it was all or nothing on that one lap, whereas consistency over a period might show a different result.

Anyhow, they were there doing it & I wasn't, so well done all those that took part

ok, to be fair to Tiff, the track was damp, he had only had a few laps before in the car and it was on boggo road tyres. Not ideal for a RWD car with no driver aids and almost 500bhp. It Was Porsche uk's car and trust me they are very very quick cars. I went out in one around Bedford on saturday and they are weapons. As a standard road car I think they are very very impressive, even for 120k.! Martin and Sean were still quicker though in Ford Escorts The Caterham R500 was virtually a full works Effort, they had alot more than one hot lap and half the facory were there with it!! Martin will hammer its time at the next event.

I am waiting for a Golf Mark 1 GTI owner to come on a slag us all off!!

What BHP was the golf running?

Seems a bit weird that Tiff was behind and that a Golf was in front.......

I have respect for the Cossie, just hate the way they are now the boyo's wagon... worried the Scooby is going the same way...

There is allways some excuse Both the Porsche and cossies were running on the same day in the same conditions enough said. The 330 bhp cossie won because it is the better handling car. You will also note that the official lap times set by the cossies were not their fastest of the day by along way either.
I can't understand why people think that they have to excuse other cars and make up some reason why they didn't beat the cossies.
I am sure many of you have seen GT cars racing Porsches oh dear enough said.
If you look at the entry sheets posted on the RS site you will see the Porsche driven by Tiff was entered as a modified car.

I agree and it just like when the cossies owners got destroyed by the scoob owners in revs magazine grudge match shootout. Its all about what happens on the day, you cant win if you dont finish.

The sierra Saff 4by4 has the same running gear as the escort the same floorpan etc etc. The saff is more aerodynamic than the escort. Having said that the escort has a stiffer shell than the sierra.
