How long will it last ?
#1
Hi,
I am thinking of buying a Legacy estate, I have found a '98 2.0GLS with full main dealer service history, but it has 107k on the clock. How long can I expect the engine to last before I start getting problems?
Cheers

When I bought my Impreza Sport, on enquiring about the boxer engine's reliability, I was told that "we've had Legacys with a quarter of a million on the clock".
Sounds good to me.
Oh, I should mention that if you put such a random title on the subject line a lot of people won't even bother to read it.
Try it with "How does a Legacy's reliabilty compare to an Impreza" or such. Then Legacy owners on here will respond.

Or "Legacy Vs Impreza" - the versus bit usually gets a lot of interest

My dad did 150k miles in a 2.2 GX and loved it - I test drove the 2.0 last year and decided I just couldnt live with something so slow...
Up to you really, but I would go towards the lower mileage, bigger engine car - more fun to drive and all the extras (unlike the 2.0 gls) - just try and get a bit more money off.

Thanks for the replies, I am still looking and have found another Legacy estate.
So what do you think is the best deal
98 2.0GLS with 107k 1 owner FSH £5995
96 2.2GX-S with 46k 1 owner FSH £8495
